Hip Margate, 4th in The Times list

The Times has named Margate as the 4th hippest place in the UK.  The article reported “Margate, with its Turner Contemporary gallery and revamped amusement park, Dreamland, has started something on the east Kent coast”.

Hip Londoners are looking to Kent for a fun seaside holiday break with towns such as Folkestone, Ramsgate, Rye, Hastings, St Leonards and Hythe, and of course Dungeness (which houses the film-maker Derek Jarman’s former cottage).

Margate, it seems, is leading the pack as things have changed over the past decade for this very special seaside holiday destination.  With new attractions such as The Turner Contemporary and Dreamland, Margate is reaching out to those who would not have considered a holiday on the Kent coast before.

Dreamland is opening on the 19th June!

Dreamland opened just last June

The Turner Contemporary has changed the face of Margate, bringing thousands of visitors each year into the Victorian seaside town.  Dreamland which re opened only last year, has been the culmination of an 11-year old project to save the oldest surviving amusement park in the UK.

Apart from culture and adventure, Margate offers some great places to eat, inside Dreamland, you’ll be spoilt for choice, from Thai at Yama’s Thai Eaterie to vegetarian at My Little Green Box and lots inbetween.  In Margate, there’s a fabulous choice of foodie spots… we loved The Ambrette with their superb tasting menu, every mouthful was a treat, an excitement and beyond our expections.  They do a great lunch menu too so we’ll be back!

For those who just want to pop in for a quick bite, should head for The Hoy is on the sea front side of the Old Town, a thriving bustle of small shops, art galleries, antique and brick-a-back shops, museums and market stalls. Close to the Turner Contemporary, The Hoy makes for a great lunch spot after a gallery visit.
