Here at Mulberry Cottages we prefer to adopt a smile in the face of adversity and hope for the best in the end. This particular adversity (the neverending bad weather) has been more trying than most but we soldier on… so if a soggy weekend by the sea or a wet week in the wilderness doesn’t really float your boat, let us try to convert you to our way of thinking- that bad weather doesn’t neccessarily point to a bad British holiday- in fact it might improve it somewhat!
So you look out the window and toy with booking a last minute weekend away- then check the forecast of predictable rain and decide against it? NO! There is so much to be seen in Kent and Sussex with or without the rain and even better, not everyone else in the UK would have had the same idea!
Enjoy luxurious meals…? Visit during the rainy days to ensure you can always get into sample the best of British fayre. There are so many fantastic resaurants to try in Kent and Sussex but the summer months usually mean that you have to literally sacrifice a limb to secure a booking in one… Take the pain out of a foodies holiday by getting in there first. Try our beautiful seaside hideaway Writer’s Cottage, this romantic bolthole in the chic seaside town of Whitstable is perfect for exploring the vintage stores, taking tea in any one of the numerous cafes and is just a stones throw along the coast from the best restaurant in Kent, the Sportsman at Seasalter.
For a feast for the whole family, why not whisk them away to Waitemata in Ramsgate, sleeping eight and in the middle of the budding cafe culture of this historic spa town, whilst your there, we recommend the award winning Age and Sons for locally sourced and delectable dishes.
Adrenaline junkie? The only thing scarier than Leeds Castle’s ‘Go Ape’ is Leeds Castle’s ‘Go Ape’ IN THE RAIN! Turn your hand to high ropes, trapeezes and wires swinging through the trees and test your mettle to the limit… When you just can’t take any more excitement, you have the unique opportunity to retire to any one of our 5 (yes 5!) holiday home in the grounds of the ‘Loveliest Castle in the World’- Try Keepers House for starters… this gorgeous country house sleeps 10 and comes with free annual tickets to Leeds Castle!
With so many country cottages to try some outward bounds from, extreme biking through the Ashdown forest near to ‘The Red House’ or kitesurfing (which, for the record, is even more fun in the rain!) from one of our multiple cottages in Camber means that the rain doesn’t neccessarily mean sitting in with the TV on…
So you see there is so much to do around Kent and Sussex come rain or shine that there is simply no excuse no to visit us this year!
