Summertime strolling in Somerset

DID YOU KNOW?!

Somerset was described as The Land of the Summer People by the ancient Welsh Celts and Saxons – you can clearly see why as this county; rich in diverse and contrasting landscape is just waiting to be explored.

From the sweeping shorelines to the heart of dense woodland, find out what makes Somerset distinctive and unique by exploring on foot and by bike!

Congresbury/Iwood Circular (North Somerset)

This 3 mile walk takes you along the beautiful River Yeo starting at Congresbury.  The river is home to plenty of wildlife with ducks, swans herons and the odd kingfisher too! The area was also used as a settlement in Roman times. As you walk further along the path, discover the site of important Roman pottery at aptly named Venus Street. Cross the route of the once Wrington Vale Railway line and return to Congresbury for a bite to eat at the Ship and Castle Inn.

Strawberry Line (North Somerset)

A slightly longer route, the Strawberry Line runs for 8 miles and is from Yatton to Cheddar – perfect for cyclists. The line was once part of The Great Western Railway and the name of this route derives because of the tasty cargo from the strawberry fields! The route is pretty much traffic-free and runs through delicious apple cider orchards, the nature reserve and charming villages.
