Rye Bay Scallop Week is on its way! Get ready with your knives for a bit of shucking. From the 2nd til 10th February, Rye will be buzzing with scallops.
The local restaurants will be showcasing a variety of wonderful scallop dishes and this year there will be scallop events including cookery schools and demonstration, live music, quiz nights and more!
And here at Mulberry Cottages we are still trying hard to increase fitness and generally get healthier. We are so happy to find out that scallops are the perfect food to help us along the way. Not only does a serving of five large sea scallops weighing 20 g each have a mere 111 calories, which makes up only 6 percent of a 2,000-calorie diet. They are also high in protein, low in fat and rich in several essential micronutrients. If you’re trying to lose weight, sea scallops provide high nutritional value in exchange for a low caloric content. Plus – wait for it – they are rich in vitamin B12, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc and copper. They are also an excellent source of phosphorus and selenium – wow!
So get down to Rye and have a fun week, with the Brede Farmers’ Market, talks at the Market fisheries and at Webbe’s Scallop School plus entertainment such as Scallop and Wine at The George and even Scallop Bingo at The Standard! We have plenty of lovely places to stay in and around Rye, with Hare Farm Oast at Brede a short drive away.
Why not stay in Knot Cottage in the heart of Rye, a stone’s throw from the historical Rye Arch.
Another lovely cottage is The Old Library at Iklesham, just a short drive from Rye, so easy to join in with the Rye Bay Scallop Week whenever it suits you.
