How lovely to get carried away by a good book, we have plenty of properties with literary connections.  It is very enticing for those who love books and a perfect activity for a relaxing break away from home where there is time for adults and children alike to open the first page of a new book or re read a well loved classic.

The Highlands, set in Iden in East Sussex – not far from the sea, could be straight out of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five books!  You can imagine the children rushing downstairs and out into the countryside on another adventure, with a supply of ginger biscuits and lashings of lemonade!

Stay at The Red House in Hartfield, East Sussex – this pretty village on the edge of the Ashdown Forest was once home to A A Milne, author of Winnie the Pooh! Head to Pooh Corner, situated on the edge of Hartfield to buy all your Pooh collectables and take a great walk down to Pooh Bridge to play Poohsticks!   Visit Hundred Acre Wood or try and find The Lone Pine, lots of places to explore.

Dunes Beach House in Thorpeness, Suffolk is perfect for a bookish holiday; J M Barrie – the author of Peter Pan was a regular visitor to the village.  You can hire boats to go rowing around the little islands which are named after some of the characters in the children’s classic!

If a visit to the West Country is more what you’re looking for, a stay at The Coach House is right in the middle of the North Wiltshire countryside. Peaceful and tranquil with lots of stunning places to explore – the nearby town of Lacock is entirely protected by the National Trust and is prime location for film productions including Harry Potter and The Other Boleyn Girl.

This was the home of famous author Jane Austen – explore the beautiful city that inspired her works and pay a trip to the Jane Austen Centre, home to exhibitions, walking tours, an annual festival and a lovely tea room!

So pack your bags, make sure you have plenty of reading material and have a lovely time away!
