Holiday Cottage in Uckfield, East Sussex Sleeps 4
Quaint period Sussex holiday cottage situated just off the high street in the lovely market town of Uckfield. With lots of character and charm this self catering holiday cottage would make an ideal base for your stay in Sussex. This luxury holiday cottage has been beautifully furnished by an interior decorator offering the highest quality of furnishings to make your stay both memorable and comfortable!
Chestnut Cottage is an enchanting period whitewashed cottage in a tucked away peaceful position just off the high street in the picturesque town of Uckfield. Originally the cottages were built in mid 1600's for workers at the Uckfield brewery. Steeped in history and with lots of period features including exposed beams and original brickwork this is a really charming and truly English cottage. The owners have just refurbished it completely and have installed both an excellent stylish shower room and pretty painted kitchen making the most of the period features of this lovely holiday cottage.
Inside the owners have lovingly restored the cottage to offer really luxury accommodation. The traditional furnishings compliment this period cottage with a pretty interior designed colour scheme of creams and autumnal shades on the ground floor. A particular feature is the lovely romantic main bedroom with its charming wallpaper setting the scene.
Outside there is an attractive courtyard garden with table and chairs and a barbeque, ideal to relax in during your vacation.
There are some small car spaces in Norfolk Way, together with plenty of free parking in the lay-by opposite the Norfolk Way entrance on the High Street.
The cottage has been rated 4 Star Gold by Visit England.
Chestnut Cottage is arranged on three floors. The cottage is part of a terrace of four 17th century cottages set in a little courtyard area off the high street. The front door leads straight into the pretty compact living room with log burner, sofa and two arm chairs, TV, DVD, Sky Plus, CCTV, desk with computer and broadband and wi-fi. A door leads into the well equipped newly fitted kitchen/breakfast room.
There is dining for 4 at the table with pretty white chairs and flatscreen TV. The newly fitted country kitchen has cream painted units with wooden work surfaces, complimenting the exposed brick and beams. It includes butlers sink, gas range oven, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, Franke drinking water filter, softened water, fridge and stable door to courtyard garden.
Steep cottage stairs lead to the first floor with door to main bedroom, super king size double bed, fitted cupboard, chest of drawers, pretty ornamental fireplace and charming wallpaper. Also on this floor is the shower room, fully tiled with walk in shower, wash hand basin, toilet and heated towel rail. Steep stairs lead to the second bedroom in the eaves. This has two comfortable single beds, digital TV, arm chair and fitted cupboard.
Outside there is a fully enclosed courtyard garden with table and chairs and a barbeque.
Uckfield is a picturesque market town with lots to offer, an eclectic mix of high street shops and individual boutiques, gift shops and food shops giving the high street a vibrant and bustling feel.
Just 20 minutes away from this cute cottage is the Ashdown Forest. Originally a deer hunting forest in Norman times, Ashdown Forest is now the largest free public access space in the South East. It is a great place for walking and enjoying spectacular views over the Sussex countryside and is known the world over as the 'home' of Winnie the Pooh. The Forest is at the heart of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Nearly two thirds of its 6500 acres (2500 hectares) are heathland, amounting to 2.5% of the UK's extent of this rare habitat.
There is much to do in the area from visiting historic places such as the beautiful Hever Castle or Battle Abbey to enjoying the cycling and outward bound activities on offer at Bewl Water. You can play golf nearby and there are several riding stables in the area.
Eastbourne and Brighton are also within easy reach for a day out at the seaside where you can promenade along the beach or enjoy the delights of these famous seaside resorts! For the foodies among you this area is renowned for its fresh food and vineyards, where visits can be arranged and wine tasted. Finally, don't forget the firework displays at Lewes in November - a sight not to be missed! For more ideas of what to see please look at our 'things to do' section on the website.
