Holiday Cottage in Brede, Nr Rye, East Sussex Sleeps 8 + 4
This luxurious and charming Sussex holiday home is positioned at the heart of a truly 'Darling Buds of May' setting, with amazing far reaching views of rolling English countryside looking out towards the sea. Enchantingly restored with wonderful exposed beams, wood floors and breath taking views this really spectacular three roundel Oast dates back to 1860. Set on a working sheep farm, the owners have thought of everything to make your holiday or short break both memorable and very comfortable. A particular feature are the circular 'roundel' rooms, originally housing the hop drying kilns where the owners have cleverly used the quirky space to make this a very special place to stay. This stunning Sussex holiday home sits at the end of a long private drive overlooking a perfect slice of the rolling Sussex countryside. The uninterrupted panoramic view stretches for miles in all directions giving this luxurious Oast a real 'wow' factor!
Inside the rooms are beautifully spacious and light with the owners making the most of the beamed character of the oasthouse and also ensuring your stay is comfortable and luxurious. The stylish kitchen fits perfectly into one of the circular spaces giving a truly quirky yet cosy feel to the space. With a central island and bar stools this is an ideal place to socialise whilst you prepare a meal or a drink.
The enormous living area with its impressive open-plan staircase, is enhanced by the bi-fold doors that fold fully back so that the outdoor terrace and spectacular views joins seamlessly with the indoor space - it makes for a great combination and whatever the weather gives an extraordinary feeling of space to the living room. In the centre of this lovely room is a double sided fireplace with wood burning stove warming both living areas and giving it a really cosy feel. A rare combination of space and light and cosiness all at the same time!
The oasthouse forms part of a traditional farmstead at the heart of the farm, with the 17th century farmhouse to one side, and a restored Sussex barn (that is home to resident barn owls) to the other.
The quality of the finish throughout this beautiful building will not disappoint. There are four really good sized double bedrooms to the first floor, two of these are spacious, stylish bedroom suites, luxurious enough for a boutique hotel , One master suite has its own hallway, curved ensuite shower room, walk-through wardrobe and sumptious chandelier over the king size bed which gives a fabulous dappled effect to this high ceilinged and huge round room. The other master suite is light and bright with a large bathroom and the best views from upstairs. the other two double bedrooms have been built in the roundels giving the bedrooms a memorable and quirky feel. The lovely bathrooms in this holiday home are full of toiletries in dispensers which include shampoo, hand wash, hand and body lotion.
The main living space is enormous with comfy seating at one end and a large dining area to the other for those special family occasions. A fine oak staircase winds up from the seating area with many exposed beams and original features completing the scene. Just off the main living space downstairs is a large round sitting room with its own television, ideal for the children with two comfortable good quality sofa beds.
This wonderful holiday Oast house would be ideal for both large family groups and for a special occasion as there is lots of space for all and the really spectacular setting takes your breath away whether you are surrounded by lush green pastures or a wintry scene. The oak front door of the Oast leads directly into the wonderfully spacious, light and airy living room. Luxuriously finished with oak flooring and under floor heating, beamed ceilings and exposed brickwork make this holiday accommodation truly spectacular. The central double sided log burning stove (basket of logs provided), is surrounded by comfortable traditional sofas (one of which is a sofa bed) and co-ordinated cushions. Occasional side tables with pretty lamps finish the room off beautifully. Fully retractable doors overlooking the rolling countryside lead onto a large terrace area complete with table, chairs and a parasol, perfect for al fresco dining. There is a flat screen TV with freeview, DVD and Sky Sports. The dining area at the other end of the room has seating for 12 at a large oak refectory table, the perfect place for entertaining family and friends. In the evenings this room boasts stunning lighting to celebrate the architecture of the building - uplighters highlight the curved brickwork of the roundels.
A second sitting room in the largest roundel has 2 cosy Laura Ashley double sofas, one of which is a sofa bed which can sleep 2, there is also a tv. This room also has stunning views from the door that leads directly onto the parking area and garden.
The stylish kitchen is situated in one of the roundels of the Oast and has been finished to a very high standard including double Range master oven, extractor fan, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave oven, cream painted units with soft grey corian worktops and a central island giving the room a luxurious feel. The slate floored utility room, next to the kitchen has a washing machine and drying area, and a further door leads into a wet room complete with shower, wc and wash hand basin.
A locally crafted freestanding oak staircase leads to the first floor landing with four double bedrooms (two master suites and two twin rooms). There are two main suites, both with luxurious ensuites. These lovely bathrooms are full of toiletries in dispensers which include shampoo, hand wash, hand and body lotion.
The main roundel suite is stunning with its own beamed hallway (complete with winch!), a king sized bed with crisp white bed linen and accessorised with shades of silver and bronze, bedside tables and lamps, cream carpets. The truly magical spectacle about this room is the amazing vaulted ceiling giving the room a light and spacious feel with a sumptuous chandelier that spreads a dappled pattern around the walls and ceiling. A walk in wardrobe offers plenty of storage during your stay. The ensuite shower room is beautifully presented with a curved mosaic wall, heated towel rail, walk in shower, wc and wash hand basin.
The "square" spacious double bedroom has an original beamed ceiling and offers stunning views from its iron king size bed. Crisp white bed linen, bedside tables, lamps and cream carpet, the bedroom has a bright and romantic feel. A fitted wardrobe and chest of drawers offers plenty of storage space. The spacious ensuite bathroom includes a large bath tub, walk-in shower, heated towel rail, wc and wash hand basin. Fluffy white towels and toiletries in dispensers have been thoughtfully provided by the owner for use during your stay.
At the other end of the house, across the large vaulted landing there are two further double bedrooms in roundels, made up as twin beds but can be zip and linked to form king sized beds if the request is made at point of booking. Fitted wardrobes and chest of drawers have been provided. Also on this floor there is a family bathroom with large double ended bath, wc and wash hand basin. Stainless steel towel rails and wall mirror make the bathroom extremely comfortable.
The holiday home has its own half acre plot, including parking for several cars on the driveway, a large fully enclosed terrace with stunning uninterrupted views of the countryside and a further open grassed play area large enough for ball games. As this is a working farm we would ask that you respect the boundary's and the animals on the farm. We are afraid that because of the farm animals pets are not permitted.
Brede is a rural village with its pub located just 1 mile from the Oast. It is very well placed for access to Rye, Battle, Hastings and Tenterden and all that these historic towns have to offer. Rye is a wonderfully atmospheric medieval town renowned for its smuggling and still enjoying several cobbled streets that lead up to the 'Citadel' at the top or the hill where you can see for miles. There are many antique shops and boutiques to enjoy with tea and coffee shops giving it a real seaside feel. There is a working harbour and fresh fish can be bought direct from the boats or why not enjoy one of the many fish restaurants in the town?
Hastings has much to offer with its maritime history,1066 connections and the wonderful . old town with its quirky shops and winding streets - the bike ride in the summer is a must! Battle Abbey is also well worth a visit and the gardens at Paschley Manor and Great Dixter are renowned for their stunning displays. The lovely town of Winchelsea is also close by built atop the hill above the beach with its pretty medieval cottages most of which have cellars used in medieval times to store smuggled brandy - and open to the public in October each year.
There is a large range of beaches to suit all within a very easy drive, including the famous Camber Sands with all the water sports you could ever want, the quieter and more private Winchelsea Beach and the quirky beaches at the bottom of the cliffs at Pett Level.
For the keen golfer, there is also a good range of courses including the renowned links course at Rye. Finally why not visit the world acclaimed vineyards in the area including the award winning Chapel Down and Biddenden Vineyards where tours and tasting are a must!
Why not visit the recently opened Jerwood Gallery in Hastings, situated right on the seafront and nestled between the famous Hastings fishing huts and the historic old town. The Jerwood Gallery, little sister of the influential Jerwood space in London, houses some of the most exciting paintings produced in the 20th and 21st centuries as well as supporting young artists through its charitable arm, the Jerwood Foundation. It is less than 20 minutes by car from Hare Farm Oast.
