Brede is a rural village with its pub located just 1 mile from the Oast. It is very well placed for access to Rye, Battle, Hastings and Tenterden and all that these historic towns have to offer. Rye is a wonderfully atmospheric medieval town renowned for its smuggling and still enjoying several cobbled streets that lead up to the 'Citadel' at the top or the hill where you can see for miles. There are many antique shops and boutiques to enjoy with tea and coffee shops giving it a real seaside feel. There is a working harbour and fresh fish can be bought direct from the boats or why not enjoy one of the many fish restaurants in the town?
Hastings has much to offer with its maritime history,1066 connections and the wonderful . old town with its quirky shops and winding streets - the bike ride in the summer is a must! Battle Abbey is also well worth a visit and the gardens at Paschley Manor and Great Dixter are renowned for their stunning displays. The lovely town of Winchelsea is also close by built atop the hill above the beach with its pretty medieval cottages most of which have cellars used in medieval times to store smuggled brandy - and open to the public in October each year.
There is a large range of beaches to suit all within a very easy drive, including the famous Camber Sands with all the water sports you could ever want, the quieter and more private Winchelsea Beach and the quirky beaches at the bottom of the cliffs at Pett Level.
For the keen golfer, there is also a good range of courses including the renowned links course at Rye. Finally why not visit the world acclaimed vineyards in the area including the award winning Chapel Down and Biddenden Vineyards where tours and tasting are a must!
Why not visit the recently opened Jerwood Gallery in Hastings, situated right on the seafront and nestled between the famous Hastings fishing huts and the historic old town. The Jerwood Gallery, little sister of the influential Jerwood space in London, houses some of the most exciting paintings produced in the 20th and 21st centuries as well as supporting young artists through its charitable arm, the Jerwood Foundation. It is less than 20 minutes by car from Hare Farm Oast.
