Deal is steeped in history having not one but three castles built by Henry VIII, namely Deal , Walmer and Sandown. The first two you can visit and Sandown (only a few stones remain) is on the cycle path that follows the coast path. Deal has a town motto of 'Adjuvate Advenas' which for those not familiar with Latin is translated into " Befriend a Stranger" - perfect for those wanting to be made welcome on a self catering holiday to Deal or short break!
For the historians Deal is mentioned in the Doomsday book, but evidence suggests its history goes back much further. Julius Caesar is said to have landed on the Deal- Walmer coast in 55 and 54 BC. Deal is one of the Cinque Ports and has been important in the defences of south east England throughout history. With a coastline that was permanently exposed to potential attack it was no wonder that Deal played such an important role.
There is something for everyone in Deal, fantastic independent shops, markets, delicatessens, pubs, restaurants and cafes. The actual town centre is pedestrianised which makes it an ideal place to wander and explore. Deal has a long Pier which was named Pier of the year in 2008, and the beach is perfect for soaking up the coastal scenery. Deal is a genuine Georgian town with winding streets and lovely promenade.
Other things to do in Deal include the Time Ball Tower Museum, which is a Semaphore Tower and was used to pass messages along the East Coast to warn of smugglers. This museum contains many curious items and is well worth a visit. The Deal Maritime and Local History Museum is also very interesting as it tells the full historical story of this seaside town. The Deal Memorial Bandstand is a remembrance of the bombing of Deals Royal Marine School. The bandstand is still in use and there are free concerts from May to September on Sunday afternoons.
For sandy beaches Sandwich Bay and Broadstairs are a short drive away and are lovely to visit. Children will be keen to visit Port Lympne and Howletts Wild Animal Parks, again just a short journey from the apartments and a great day out.
For garden enthusiasts there are lovely gardens at Walmer Castle and further afield the beautiful gardens a Goodnestone are quite stunning. A relaxing afternoon can be spent exploring the gardens and then enjoying the British tradition of home made afternoon tea.
Of course this area is a golfer's paradise with the golf courses of Royal St Georges at Sandwich, Royal Cinque Ports at Deal, Hythe, Canterbury and North Foreland all within a short drive. Other sporting activities include all the water sports which you would expect to be available and many good fishing possibilities both on the coast and lakes inland.
If France beckons then why not take a ferry from Dover or the Channel Tunnel at Folkestone for a day trip, it's so close so don't forget to bring your passports!
Inland a short drive away is the historic City of Canterbury with its cobbled streets and magnificent Cathedral, many hours can be spent exploring and enjoying everything that this Medieval City has to offer.

Had a lovely break away. The staff were very friendly and helpful on email and on the phones. Thank you for that, we really appreciated it.
March 2013
We very much liked Deal and the apartment was good for a short stay for two. Very clean and well equipped and in an excellent location opposite Deal castle. Plenty of good restaurants, Saturday market is good and delightful town. Walking to nearby Kingsdown and St Margaretts along the coast is wonderful. The welcome pack was excellent quality from the local baker.

Thank you so much for a fantastic holiday! The apartment was perfect for our mini-break - just spacious enough for two people, light and airy despite being a basement flat and finished to a very high standard. The extremely comfortable bed and blackout curtains ensured a great night's sleep, the roll-top bath was a real treat and the kitchen was well-stocked (both in terms of basic cooking products and utensils/equipment, and the great coffee machine). We were also very impressed by the central heating which had the flat warm and cosy in a matter of minutes. Deal itself was lovely - lots of cute cafes, pubs and restaurants and with other towns a nice walk or short train-ride away. We couldn't recommend this apartment more!

The flat was amazing! We came to celebrate our first anniversary and it was exactly what we were looking for. The food goodie bag was also a very lovely touch and well enjoyed.
