Holiday Cottage in Stodmarsh, Kent Sleeps 10+2
This wonderful Kent period farmhouse, rated 4*Gold, has just been completely refurbished to offer a truly comfortable and special Kent holiday home. Inside this Kent self catering accommodation has lovely light rooms and a cosy log burner in each of the three reception rooms - the owners even provide all the logs!
Within 3 miles of the beautiful medieval city of Canterbury there is lots to see and do with the beautiful medieval buildings of this lovely city mixed with an excellent shopping centre. This Kent farmhouse has far reaching views of farmland and the nearby Westbere lakes - a haven of peace and tranquillity with lots of wonderful walks and wildlife to watch. All in all this is a lovely holiday house with lots to see and do in the surrounding Kent countryside.
Higham Farmhouse is offered in immaculate condition, having just been completely refurbished to a high standard. Situated next to a working farm in a lovely unspoilt spot between a Nature reserve and the cathedral city of Canterbury - the best of both worlds!
The three reception rooms have been designed to offer you really comfortable home from home living with care being given to all members of your family. There are two sitting rooms, one a lovely cosy room with log burner and comfortable seating, ideal for a bit of peace and quiet after a busy day or to enjoy a glass of wine. The other is off the kitchen with French doors to the garden and will make a wonderful gathering place for all your party. It is very light and airy, again with a log burner and the doors open onto the sunny patio to the side of the house.
The owners have retained many of the original features with exposed beams and attractive period fireplaces throughout - the lovely inglenook fireplace in the dining room is a particular feature.
The bedrooms are on two floors, all of them really good sized double rooms offering space for all. Three bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with a fourth family bathroom.
This is a really comfortable Kent farmhouse and would be a very special place to visit on your vacation or holiday in the beautiful countryside around Canterbury.
Higham Farmhouse is on three floors. It is approached from the shared farm driveway through gates into the driveway to the house with parking for several cars to the front of the house. The charming period style portico, echoing the Dutch gables of the main house leads to the front door and into the hallway.
There are three reception rooms. The main sitting room is to the front of the house with log burning stove, sofa bed to sleep two, further seating, flat screen TV, Freeview and pretty prints to complete this charming and cosy room. The Dining table has seating for 12 with dresser and large inglenook fireplace with log burner. The family room has archway to the kitchen, French doors to the garden and banks of sofas. There are books to read, games to play, TV, DVD and Freeview. All fireplaces will have a good stock of logs provided by the owner for you to use.
The kitchen has been beautifully fitted with attractive wooden units and a utility area to one end, the equipment includes dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, electric hob, double electric oven, extractor fan. There is a door to the side garden from the utility area. There is a door to rear lobby with guest cloakroom and door to garden.
There are two staircases to the first floor one from the family room and the main staircase is from the hallway.
A sweeping staircase leads to the first floor where there are three double bedrooms. The main bedroom has fitted cupboards, kingsize double bed, ornamental fireplace, exposed beams and door to ensuite bathroom. This beautifully finished bathroom is fully tiled with bath, separate walk in shower, and twin basins. Bedroom 2 has twin beds with fitted cupboards, beams and an ornamental fireplace. Bedroom 3 has a double aspect with double bed, bedside tables and lamps, wardrobe and dressing table and door to ensuite shower room with walk-in shower, wc and basin. On this floor there is also a family bathroom with bath, walk-in shower, wc and wash hand basin.
Stairs lead to the second floor where there are two further bedrooms. Bedroom 4 has a double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and door to ensuite bathroom with bath, wc and wash hand basin. Bedroom 5 is a twin room, heavily beamed.
The house is fully carpeted with oil central heating throughout. There is wi fi available at the house.
Outside there is parking for several cars on the driveway. The garden is on three sides of the farmhouse with pretty borders, attractive sitting areas and even a greenhouse with tomatoes to pick if the mood takes you! There is a charcoal barbeque available for guests to use.
This Kent farmhouse is situated between the village of Stodmarsh and the quaint and picturesque town of Fordwich. There are several pubs within walking distance including The Red Lion at Stodmarsh renowned locally for its good food and colourful publican!
The farmhouse is surrounded by lovely open countryside with wonderful walks in all directions. The Westbere lakes are just below the farm and not only can you watch the professional rowing that takes place on the lakes but also the wildlife and walks in the area are extensive. The nature reserve at Stodmarsh is internationally recognised.
The Trenley Park Riding Establishment is conveniently located a mile up the road from the farmhouse, where you can hire horses for hacking or receive riding tuition. The farmhouse also has strong links with Canterbury and District Angling Association, and coarse fishing can be provided on local lakes if required at no additional charge for experienced fishermen with their own equipment and rod licence. Instruction and rod hire can also be arranged at cost for the inexperienced fisherman, provided sufficient notice is given - please contact the owner for further details.
The medieval city of Canterbury, 3 miles away, is best explored by foot and visitors who take the time to walk the maze of intriguing side streets will find a wonderful variety of shops, pubs and cafes. Of course the City is dominated by the wonderful cathedral which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a must for any visit to Canterbury.
For golfers, Canterbury Golf Club is within a mile with several of the best known links courses in the country at Royal St Georges, Sandwich and Royal Cinque Ports in Deal, both within a 30 minute drive.
The nearby village of Ickham has the wonderful Tor Spa, for a special treatment or even a spa day as a treat during your stay.
And of course its also easy to take a day trip to France, Kent offers both the Euro star Train at Ashford and the Channel Tunnel at Folkestone which will transport you to a French location in 35 minutes - just don't forget to pack your passport!
