Woodchurch is a picturesque Kent village which is situated 7 miles from the historic market town of Ashford and 5 miles from the Cinque Ports town of Tenterden. The village is on the edge of the Weald of Kent. The surrounding area is designated as a Kent Special Landscape Area. The village became firmly established in the 13th century with the erection of the large All Saints church made of Kentish Ragstone. Although it was extensively restored in the 1840s, it still boasts a 13th century chancel and a famous brass of the 14th century, depicting a floriated cross design. The Museum is housed in an 18th century oak-framed barn and 17th century cart shed, on a rural site not far from the village centre. The windmill that overlooks the village from the north commands extensive views over the marshes to the English Channel coast. It is a fine example of a Kentish smock mill and was originally one of a pair of windmills standing on this site, known locally as The Twins. This impressive white smock windmill in the village has been fully restored and is opened to the public on Sunday afternoons throughout the summer.
There is a well maintained village green in the heart of the village with a play area for children and each year on Guy Fawkes night a torchlight procession sets off from the green to the scout's field where they give a huge firework display. The South of England Rare Breeds Centre also situated in Woodchurch is one of 16 Rare Breeds Survival Trust approved farm-parks and is a great day out for all the family.
Widely regarded as one of the most charming towns in the South East England, Tenterden, and its surrounding villages and countryside, is a fascinating place to visit and explore. With its unique mix of fascinating history and heritage, traditional shopping, family fun, great country activities and events, Tenterden and its surrounding villages have something for everyone. The town itself boasts a vibrant High Street and adjoining lanes full of quirky shops, a large leisure centre complete with swimming pool, flume and fitness centre plus a large recreation ground, impressive children's play areas, tennis courts and bowling green.
One of the best ways to enjoy the town is to follow the Heritage Trail that takes in the museums, the historic churches, the Elizabethan, Georgian and Victorian buildings and Town Hall. The town is also home to The Kent and East Sussex Railway where you can climb aboard one of its beautifully restored carriages and enjoy a trip through the picturesque Rother Valley to Bodiam Castle.
Woodchurch is surrounded by some great family attractions such as a wonderful collection of historic houses, gardens and vineyards including Sissinghurst Castle, Great Dixter House and Gardens, Hole Park, Small Hythe Place, Biddenden Vineyards, Chapel Down Winery and many more.
The surrounding countryside has plenty to offer too with several quality golf courses, well stocked coarse and game fisheries, riding stables and wonderful walks and cycle trails all on the town's door step. A short drive south of the town takes you to the historic town of Rye, and the haunting and magical Romney Marsh.
The Romney Marshes are a mysterious and enchanting region of Kent, rich in history, story and legend. A place of outstanding natural beauty, where the sun casts glorious colours across wide-open skies as mists swirl above slow moving rivers and still, dark, dykes. Romney Marsh offers unique geology, geography, world-famous habitats, geomorphology, flora, fauna and wildlife of this region; its distinguished literary past, ancient history, its far reaching military and political influence and the folklore, legends, stories, tourist attractions and modern development of this magical corner ofKent.
Ashford is now a major terminus for the Channel Tunnel trains and has been rapidly expanding as a result so why not take a day trip to France during your stay? Originally Ashford was a market town based on farms on the Romney Marsh and is still a market town. Old buildings remain, such as the 15th century church, old grammar school, and the Templar Barracks which houses the museum of Intelligence Corps. There are an excellent selection of shops and restaurants in both Ashford and Tenterden.
Kent is steeped in history and heritage and is also rightly renowned throughout the world as the Garden of England. Kent's extensive coastline boasts an enviable array of blue flag award winning beaches and thrilling water sports activities with Camber's lovely sandy dunes only 20 minutes drive away. Slightly further afield but still within easy driving distance are the county's iconic landmarks such as Canterbury Cathedral, Leeds Castle and the White Cliffs of Dover.

Had a wonderful time at this beautiful converted barn in November. Very spacious, much larger than in photos, all 8 of us had plenty of space. Good cooking facilities able to make full three course meals for 8.
Would definitely stay again!

A wonderful weekend was had by 6 girls. The barn is beautiful, very spacious and decorated to a high spec. The kitchen was a dream to cook in and the lounge was spacious enough for us all to sit, chat and enjoy ourselves. The patio is very private with lovely views overlooking a field, we had our breakfast out there in the warm sunshine. The barn is ideally located in the village of Woodchurch with a 10 minute walk to the two local pubs for drinks and a meal and Ashford Retail Outlet is 20 minutes drive for some retail therapy. A fantastic place, we will be back.

8 friends stayed in this cottage as an early Christmas get-away 1-4 December. We can't recommend it highly enough. The barn is incredibly homely, warm and inviting. The pictures are wonderful but they really don't do it justice; there's ample space for 8, especially in the spacious reception room (with fantastic wood-burning fire – perfect on the chilly evenings). The fixtures and fittings are of exceptionally high standard and all appliances are simple to use. The well-equipped kitchen was a joy to cook in. The electric windows/blinds are an added bonus! Thanks for a wonderful break - you really do have something special on your hands. If reading this... BOOK NOW!

We were in this cottage for 2 weeks (from the 2th of July till the 16th of July). This is a very nice cottage in the South East of England. The rennovated old barn is brand new. The kitchen is very nice, the rooms are great. Round the house there is much room. You only hear the sound of the birds.
