This self catering Kent beach house is situated in the pretty town of Walmer nestled between Dover and Deal on the Kent coast. The Kent town itself has a good range of shops and is within a two minute walk of a cosmopolitan mix of restaurants and bars all taking full advantage of the seafront location in Kent.
Deal is steeped in history having not one but three castles built by Henry VIII, namely Deal , Walmer and Sandown. The first two you can visit and Sandown (only a few stones remain) is on the cycle path that follows the coast path. Deal has a town motto of 'Adjuvate Advenas' which for those not familiar with Latin is translated into " Befriend a Stranger" - perfect for those wanting to be made welcome on a self catering holiday to Deal or short break!
For the historians Deal is mentioned in the Doomsday book, but evidence suggests its history goes back much further. Julius Caesar is said to have landed on the Deal- Walmer coast in 55 and 54 BC. Deal is one of the Cinque Ports and has been important in the defences of south east England throughout history. With a coastline that was permanently exposed to potential attack it was no wonder that Deal played such an important role.
There is something for everyone in Deal, fantastic independent shops, markets, delicatessens, pubs, restaurants and cafes. The actual town centre is pedestrianised which makes it an ideal place to wander and explore. Deal has a long Pier which was named Pier of the year in 2008, and the beach is perfect for soaking up the coastal scenery. Deal is a genuine Georgian town with winding streets and lovely promenade.
Other things to do in Deal include the Time Ball Tower Museum, which is a Semaphore Tower and was used to pass messages along the East Coast to warn of smugglers. This museum contains many curious items and is well worth a visit. The Deal Maritime and Local History Museum is also very interesting as it tells the full historical story of this seaside town. The Deal Memorial Bandstand is a remembrance of the bombing of Deals Royal Marine School. The bandstand is still in use and there are free concerts from May to September on Sunday afternoons.
For golfers, try your skills on a links course, Rye, Royal St George's, Littlestone, Royal Cinque Ports and Sene Valley are all within an easy reach also a nine hole golf course in Hythe.
If you want to travel a little further afield why not visit Age and Sons restaurant in nearby Ramsgate, recently awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand award signifying good food at reasonable prices. The chef Toby Leigh specializes in fresh locally sourced modern British food, a restaurant to be highly recommended.
Lovely spot, right on the beachfront.
A lovely interior, with an excellent, communal kitchen/dining area. Decorated with style throughout, and fantastic views. The balcony along the sea-side of the house was a perfect, sunny gathering spot for everyone before setting off each day. 10 minutes to Deal one way, and a 3-mile walk along the beach the other way to a lovely pub and some stunning, untouched cliffs and scenery.

We stayed at this cottage almost a year ago, it really is lovely, warm, comfortable and in a beautiful position, local taxis were very reasonable and we ate at Age & Sons in Ramsgate which was delicious. A great weekend away, I would recommend to anyone.

We stayed at 1 caesar Apartment recently and it is truly the most amazing holiday home we have ever stayed in. Fantastic pieces of original artwork cover the walls, beautiful views of the sea from the enclosed balacony and unexpected warm weather in October all made for an amazing time. I can't wait to go back again next year.
