This self catering Kent holiday cottage is situated in the village of Rodmersham near Sittingbourne on the North Kent coast. Situated adjacent to the property is the Rodmersham Stores Cafe and the Fruiterers Arms public house perfect for sharing those warm summer evenings whilst following the footpath opposite the property you will find yourself immersed in beautiful local apple orchards and rural farmland. Close to good transport links, this luxury holiday cottage is very convenient as a location to explore Kent and also for day trips to London or the Continent.
The Kent countryside can truly be explored from this property with its close proximity to the beautiful North Kent Downs and Cromers Woods, a 28 hectare ancient woodland owned by the Kent Wildlife Trust, best visited in March to early July and October.
Just 2.5 miles from Old Post Cottage you will be able to join the No.1 Cycle Route which follows the north Kent coast passing through Rochester and Canterbury.
Faversham is only a short drive and offers many attractions to the holidaymaker. The historic town centre is well worth exploring during your stay with many historic sites including Maison Dieu which are the remains of a medieval monastery - it has been a village museum since 1924 and is the oldest in England. Faversham's gunpowder mills have dominated the Kent town's industry for the last 400 years. During your stay, the Chart Gunpowder Mills are well worth a visit; here you can see the 11 processes in making gunpowder. The town of Faversham is also the home of the National Fruit Collection at Brogdale Farm - here you can spend a lovely day out and get a real taste of the fruit growing industry in Kent. Hops also feature in this area of Kent and the Faversham Brewery of Shepherd Neame, the oldest brewery in England, offers a wonderful two hour tour where it is also possible to sample the brews, a perfect trip out with all the family to learn more about Kent during your stay!
There are glorious Kent gardens to explore for a fun day out, including Mount Ephraim Gardens at Hernhill, where you can wander around the magical gardens and enjoy lunch or tea at the restaurant. There are also the Doddington Place Gardens near Sittingbourne in Kent and Belmont House and Gardens which are both well worth a visit during your stay.
The spectacular Leeds Castle is situated just 10 miles from Old Post Cottage, which makes this a perfect day out. With over 900 years of history, beautiful gardens, playground and maze there is really something for everyone to enjoy.
The Historic Dockyard of Chatham, Kent, is a unique, award-winning maritime attraction - here you can explore 400 years of Kent history and there are costumed guides to show you around. This is a wonderful Kent attraction to visit with the children.
For older children, teenagers and even adults a trip to the Buckmore Park Go Karting Circuit is a fun day out whilst you're staying in this Kent holiday cottage. This is where Lewis Hamilton began his racing career! The circuit is open all week and it is possible to book special parties in advance.
The whole of the North Kent Coast is a lovely place to explore, from nature reserves for bird watching to working harbours in Whitstable, Kent, where you can sample the famous oysters. With pretty beach huts and traditional seaside resorts such as Herne Bay this is a very popular area of Kent for enjoying a traditional seaside holiday.
