Ambrooks Cottage at Chislet Court Farm is situated along a country lane, on an 800 acre working arable farm, and is attached to the charming listed Queen Anne Farmhouse. Surrounded by open farmland with easy access to reclaimed marshland, in particular The Saxon Shore Way, this area is perfect for cycling and walking, and there are regular sightings of heron, marsh harrier and egrets. Within reasonable walking distance of an excellent local pub, complete with log fire and good food served throughout the day. The popular Cathedral City of Canterbury is located close by as well as the coastal towns of Whitstable, Sandwich and Herne Bay which offer a complete choice of cafes and shops including traditional seafood. The area is particularly well known for its oysters with the renowned Whitstable Oyster Festival at the end of July each year where you can buy local produce for dinners in or dine out in the ample choice of restaurants. You may wish to indulge in some shopping along the bustling high street of Canterbury (within 7 miles) or look for the bargains at the Westwood Cross centre near to Ramsgate. The local events in the area include the Chislet Fete, literally on the doorstep; which is held during the last week of June each year. The stunning cathedral city of Canterbury has much to offer with its wonderful combination of winding medieval streets, beautiful architecture and a vibrant and busting centre. Here you can visit the famous Cathedral and St Augustine's Abbey, both of which have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. A whole day can be spent just exploring the Cathedral, Crypt and Cloisters. Or why not try a Historic River Tour, or a walking ghost tour both of which offer a very different view of this lovely city. There is an extensive shopping centre from the contemporary Whitefriars development to the more traditional boutiques and independent shops found in the medieval cobbled streets..
Surrounding Canterbury there are many other attractions - for children the wild animal parks at Howletts and Port Lympne are great locations for days out. For garden lovers Kent and East Sussex boast many famous and beautiful gardens to visit. Gardens include Goodnestone Park Gardens, Mount Ephraim, Walmer Castle and gardens and the famous Sissinghurst Castle Gardens. This part of Kent boasts more castles than in any other area in England with Dover Castle as its jewel, where you can not only visit the wonderfully restored keep but also the secret underground WW2 headquarters within the White Cliffs itself.
With the proximity of the Channel Tunnel and the port of Dover, day trips to France are so easy - you can also take the Eurostar to Paris which only takes 2 hours.
For golfers there is an 18 hole course on the outskirts of Canterbury, also the links course at Royal St George's in Sandwich and the Royal Cinque Ports in Deal. For fishermen, Marshside Fishing Lakes where a day ticket cost £6 is just a mile away.(at time of print)
