There is a magnitude of things to do on your stay at Loch Retreat apart from the obvious Nessie hunting The Great Glen Way is perfect if you are feeling active enough to walk the 79 miles along the length of the full route alternatively you can walk a lesser distance and maybe take a boat ride, canoe or kayak back to save your legs a little. Cycle routes are abundant and bicycles are available to hire locally.
The magnificently situated Urquhart Castle, on the banks of Loch Ness, is well worth a visit and remains an impressive stronghold despite its ruinous state. Once one of Scotland's largest castles, Urquhart's remains include a tower house that commands splendid views of the famous loch and Great Glen. Visitors can relax in the café and visit the shop with its local crafts. The visitor centre contains retail, interpretation area, audio-visual presentation and tearoom and toilets on one level. Stunning views of the loch can be obtained from visitor centre veranda. You can hire a power boat nearby to take you to the castle.
For skiers, there is a resort just 30 minutes away, with Caithgorn and Lecht an hour away.
