Thorpeness is within a mile of Aldeburgh, a lovely seaside town on the Suffolk coast. The village has a horse drawn carriage, lots of activities for children at the Country Club and the feel of a bygone era. There is a golf course, the Meare boating lake, a good pub, coffee and ice cream shops and of course miles of beach! It is very children friendly and would make an ideal base for a family holiday.
Aldeburgh itself has a wonderful mix of individual boutiques and clothes shops, restaurants and fish and chips, ice cream parlours and boating ponds. Fresh fish can be bought direct from the fishermen on the beach.
The area is very flat and ideal for cycling, and of course for music lovers Snape Maltings (about 3 miles) away offers a really wide range of internationally renowned music including the festival in June. Nearby is RSPB Minsmere Nature Reserve, Southwold with its pier and famous beach huts and crabbing at Walberswick with crabbing competitions throughout the year offering sport for one and all!
This part of Suffolk is very unspoilt and beautiful with lots of marshland walks and places to explore, with pretty inlets and excellent gastro pubs. The beautiful medieval city of Norwich is an hour to the north.
