Cottages in Tenterden and the Weald of Kent are mostly country cottages with stunning rural views. The Weald is an area of outstanding natural beauty, stretching across Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex and Surrey. With many wooded areas, cottages in Tenderten and the Weald can be secluded, with beautiful country walks to be enjoyed and many local pubs and attractions for visitors.
The Chalk Hills of the North Downs and South Downs can be easily accessed by car or on foot from most cottages in Tenterden and the Weald. Some cottages date from the Middle Ages and have oak beams and real country cottage charm. Cottages in Tenterden and the Weald also have good transport links to London, Ashford and other major Kent towns.
Tenderden and Weald cottages are located on hillsides and in the rolling countryside of the valleys. Forests cover a large part of the area around Tenterden and the Weald, forming some of the largest wooded areas left in Britain. Ancient and Medieval sites can be viewed in the towns surrounding cottages in Tenterden and the Weald, with modern attractions and facilities existing side by side.
The village of Goudhurst, located in the Weald, has a good range of shops, restaurants and country pubs. The National Pinetum is a couple of miles away at Bedgebury. Tenderden and Weald cottages, are located near to some outstanding attractions. These include the National Trust properties of Sissinghurst Castle with its renowned gardens and Bodiam Castle. Slightly further away from Tenterden and Weald cottages are Batemans (one time home of Rudyard Kipling) and Ightham Moat.
The nearby village of Kilndown has a remarkable 19th century church with unique features. The seaside resort of Hastings and the smugglers town of Rye are within easy reach by car or train.
Major historic industries, dating since Roman times, are woollen mills, iron making and ship building (at Rye). The woods and countryside benefit from industry now using raw materials other than timber. Come and enjoy a quiet, scenic cottage holiday at a cottage in Tenderden or a cottage in the Weald of Kent.
