Visiting France

At Mulberry Cottages, we pride ourselves on providing the best possible customer service and experience when you choose to book one of our self catering cottages for your holiday or vacation in England. With this in mind, we want you to get the most out of your holiday accommodation, as well as soak in the vibrant past and promising future of Kent and Sussex. Please see our “Things to Do” section for lots of other ideas of places to visit close to your holiday cottage.

French ParkIt is easy to visit France for the day if you are staying in a holiday cottage in Kent or Sussex as there are a wide range of ferries, trains, hover speed, hydrofoil and The Channel Tunnel crossing the Channel. Several of the self catering cottages have views of France and at only 20 miles away across The Channel it’s a great chance during your holiday to sample the wonderful flavours, wine and ambience of France and Belgium.

The main routes are from Folkestone, Dover, and Ramsgate in Kent and New Haven in Sussex with travelling times taking from as little as 35 minutes. For a truly special day out why not take the Eurotunnel from Ashford or Ebbsfleet in Kent direct to Paris, Lille and Brussels approximately 2 hours.

If you choose to travel with Eurotunnel, located just before Folkestone, (exit junction 11A of the M20), you can be enjoying your continental excursion in as little as 35 minutes! Alternatively, if you prefer to go by ferry, hydrofoil or hovercraft several companies based in Dover, Folkestone, Ramsgate and Newhaven such as P&O Ferries, Transmanche Ferries, Norfolkline and LD Lines have regular sailings to Calais, Boulogne, Le Havre, Dieppe and Dunkirk.

There is so much to see and do in France within easy reach of the Channel ports, with attractions such as Nausicaa National Sea Centre in Boulogne; the smart and elegant seaside town of Le Touquet on the Cote D’Opale, known as “Paris by the Sea”; Montreuil-sur-Mer , a pretty hilltop 13th century walled town with paved streets with some very fine restaurants and wine shops. Don’t forget to visit the many traditional French markets held regularly in towns throughout the Nord-Pas de Calais region.

Belgium is also within easy reach with the wonderful city of Bruges, considered the Venice of the North a couple of hours drive away. Steeped in history with beautiful buildings, great shops selling traditional lace and wonderful Christmas markets to explore, Bruges is also well worth a visit.
With countless diversions to choose from, we are sure you will find something to entice you across “La Manche!”
