My Big Weekend: Dad and Daughter Time in Canterbury Countryside
We have been chatting to the Mulberry team about their favourite big weekends this year. If you have a little one to entertain, James has some great ideas.
"Saturday had that Autumn feeling, the sun was shining with a slight crispness to the air, perfect weather for a walk in the woods. Just outside Canterbury are Blean woods with 5 trails up to 8 miles long meandering through 11 square miles of tranquil ancient woodland.
My 18 month old daughter absolutely loved walking along our chosen trail, jumping in puddles testing out her new unicorn wellies and picking up as many sticks as she could hold. Our favorite part was when we explored a little off the trail and found several part built stick shelters. We picked one that was almost complete and decided to finish it off. We found some extra branches and sticks and added these to the shelter. We continued on passing a few friendly dog walkers who all stopped to say hello and let my daughter stroke their dog.
The following day we went to Stodmarsh nature reserve which is also just outside Canterbury. Stodmarsh is very different to Blean woods but equally as beautiful. My daughter absolutely loved looking at all the birds, we saw Marsh Harriers, Kestrels, Kingfishers and plenty of ducks. We played pooh sticks over on of the bridges that cross the many streams and I lost every time! After our walk we stopped at Grove Ferry for a real country pub style meal before heading home."
