My Big Weekend: Buzzing Margate

To celebrate our favourite time of the week, we have been on a hunt to find out about the team at Mulberry's most treasured weekends. Starting with Liz's big weekend on the Kent coast, in Margate.

“Our last minute weekend in Margate was lovely... the grand Regency architecture on the sea front with the huge Margate Sands stretching out were such a great welcome. We started with a fresh coffee and homemade cake in an open-topped red bus turned café, with a view of the actual bakers at work, whilst listening to a live pianist from the Old Kent Market.

We then went to the Turner Contemporary art gallery which was a fascinating modern and historical art hit in one go, and the Antony Gormley iron man out to sea was beguiling. We had a super lunch of fresh seafood at Bouy and Oyster, followed by a stroll around the Old Town, where we saw fantastic retro furniture, vintage clothes, artwork, oriental gifts and even beauty products made from local seaweed!

Once lunch had gone down, the afternoon was spent having fun at Dreamland, an old theme park site regenerated with vintage rides. The dodgems were great fun, and we both nearly lost our voices screaming our way around the Scenic Railway, just as my partner had done on the very same ride as a little boy.

We ended the night by watching the amazing sunset whilst sipping large Mojitos in Ziggy’s rooftop bar with views across the bay, the sea and the enormous sky. We’ll certainly be back to revisit our favourites and to discover more.”
