“Our holiday let has evolved into our very own ‘Special Baby"

Cheri, owner of The Manor Coach House – Chartham, Kent | Sleeps 4+2

Cheri - otherwise known as the ‘ideas person’, ‘laundry maid’ and ‘the overseer’ of the smooth running of the Manor Coach House. Having met her partner later on in life, the purchase of their now-home, was their first home together. Having been a property developer for over 30 years, Cheri has enjoyed restoring her period property along with gaining experience in interior design and landscaping gardens.

Do you enjoy holiday letting?

“A great deal of thought and consideration led us to make the choice of owning a holiday home - especially as we live 'next door'. We have tailored 'The Manor Coach House' to suit our high expectations and attention to detail and we take great pleasure in sharing our home with a wide variety of people.”

Living next door, we assume you are quite 'hands on' with the holiday home?

“We are incredibly 'hands-on' owners, but as it is a large house and gardens we are lucky to have extra help from our great hand-picked team - Lizzie our housekeeper, plus Robert and Patrick, our two gardeners/handymen. My husband does the meet and greets, and is also involved with maintenance, grounds and property, pool and the hot tub. He helps with change-overs, bakes the welcome loaf of bread and likes to have the official title of ‘General Dogsbody’. We always try to ensure we see all guests before they depart to find out if they have enjoyed their stay, and take on board any comments to help us improve our service. “

Is there a particular experience that you want to give your guests?

“We want our guests to be happy and relaxed then hopefully leave with ‘magical moments and lasting memories.’

We arrange fresh cut flowers from the gardens and bake fresh bread which is timed to be hot and ready for the arrival of our guests. We also supply locally made jam and honey, a bottle of Prosecco and bottles of local Natural Spring Water by Kingsdown.

We supply a variety of indoor and outdoor games/equipment for active families. There is an outdoor table tennis table which has been the scene of some very intense competitions! There is a 'Blue Shed' full of outdoor games and activities for everyone to enjoy, this has received many excellent comments. For couples prepare a romantic setting with candles and flowers and have the rose and ivy-clad hot tub area. Not forgetting to mention the jewel in the crown our large heated swimming pool and slide. We are at present developing an area where volleyball, badminton and tennis can be played.

We like as much info as possible about our guests as we try to tailor our holiday home to suit the couples/family or group and not to forget our much loved four-legged friends! We provide dog beds, towels, doggie 'beer', dog chews, dog bowls and a play toy. We have fenced-off an acre of the garden for the guests and pets to enjoy. For example, if it's raining we put up a 'Hovershot' nerf gun game in the children's bedroom and an archery game that is ready to use on arrival. Both of us know the importance of keeping young children happy and occupied after a long journey.“

Why Mulberry Cottages?

"This was a simple decision in that Mulberry Cottages has a first class reputation in the holiday homeworld and we wanted to be a part of this market.

We initially made our first contact with Mulberry Cottages when we were considering the conversion of some redundant farm buildings to holiday lets. We saw the offices when they were in St Dunstan's and the Mulberry Tree logo really stood out to us. Back then Rowena gave us excellent advice and when we subsequently purchased the Manor with the Coach House, Mulberry Cottages was our first and in fact the only port of call. We then met Hilary who gave us a comprehensive breakdown of all aspects of Mulberry Cottages requirements from 'forks to finances'!

Consequently, we were given a bespoke step-by-step guide on how to provide a first class holiday home and we take great pleasure in sharing our home with the 'Mulberry Cottages Family'.
The website is colourful, fun, exciting and idea inspiring. We find it easy to navigate when searching for properties to stay in. We regularly view the website and are extremely happy with the newsfeeds and National Newspaper exposure. The owner’s login is also very simple to use.
We are keen to use and encourage local businesses and have liaised with Mulberry Cottages to promote our contacts.  A few of these have actually been added to the Mulberry Cottages Website (local vineyards, beauty therapies and the Glass Studio).

Mulberry Cottages have a great team and we are proud to be part of it.”
