Well we followed our own advice and visited the new Jerwood Gallery in Hastings at the weekend and were captivated! It is an intimate space with a personal feel and yet has a touch of magic about it with the wonderful light bouncing off the sea onto the gallery walls.
It is set in the heart of the old town, right next to the working harbour where you can buy really fresh fish direct from the fishermen and many of the local restaurants take advantage of this; selling delicious fish and chips, seafood platters or the like. Hastings was buzzing, not only was the half marathon winding (or perhaps puffing!) its way through the town, but the sun was out and lots of visitors were enjoying the great mix of boutiques, junk and antique shops, cafes and restaurants and further down the parade the slot machines, ice cream parlours and pubs of the ‘new’ town.
This is a really fun place to visit for everyone, a bit of culture, a lovely array of unusual and individual shops to warm a shopaholics heart and the sea – what more could we ask for?! You need to visit – it is definitely worth it!
