This is a guest blog by one of the team who visited Keeper’s Cottage, a true insight into what you can expect from this amazingly unique and quirky cottage!
Keeper’s Cottage is a hidden gem on the edge of the Ashdown Forest, which is a holiday home I won’t forget in a rush ……. for all the right reasons of course!!
Driving to the cottage is an adventure in itself, set deep in the woods of a farm; I was taken on a wonderful journey down pass pens full of wild Boar and Rhea.
The driveway meanders down through the peaceful woodlands then you eventually see the rooftop of Keepers cottage hidden far below.
I was expecting Cath Kidston and shabby chic but instead when I opened the door I arrived in the late 1960’s early 1970’s with a bang of colour! Original orange shag pile carpet, orange sofas and matching lampshades.
This cottage is a lovingly restored timewarp! The owners proudly showed me around pointing out that they have especially sourced a retro tv with no remote control – so expect to be jumping up and down to change channels.
The bathroom is of course avocado throughout, and proud of it with tiles to match!!
I stumbled upon a cut out Elvis propped in the corner of the master bedroom and grins at you as you relax on your bed (orange of course).
Outside there is a magical garden with wonderful old Magnolia tree and charming views of the surrounding woodland with peacocks strutting their stuff as the owners have many beautiful free range birds that wander in and out of the garden – they all have names and are very much part of the family.
Finally, don’t forget to take a photo of yourself in the large carved Indian arm chairs – you never know you might make it to the hall of fame on the dining room walls – send us the evidence please!
This place is special, quirky and very different but if its an experience you want then this is a must see! For ideas and inspiration about what to do while you are staying at Keeper’s cottage take a look at our things to do section!
