We’d been thinking about what to do for our wedding anniversary for ages, we’d tied the knot 5 years ago and so it had to be something to do with wood as that’s apparently where we’d got to.
I’d been googling like mad and come across some amazing treehouse experiences but March is not a great month for hanging around in a tree without heating so the idea had gone a little by the by.
It wasn’t until a friend mentioned that she’d seen these amazing treehouses in Kent at Port Lympne which were open all year round and had proper heating and were lovely and cosy that I made up my mind that we had to make the trip to this amazing wildlife park.
So a quick call to Mulberry Cottages to get all the info and we were hooked. The treehouse is called The Lion Sleeps Tonight – fun! We planned to go with our great friends who live in France, it was the ideal place to get together.
We packed our bags and headed off to East Kent, getting excited as we entered Port Lympne Wildlife Park.
The staff were fantastic, they took us to the treehouse with it’s stunning interior and the most fabulous views.
No traffic, no artificial noises …. just the sound of nature. The treehouses offer comfort and serenity, with views across the Rhino enclosure, across to the Kent countryside and the English Channel in the distance.
We had free entry to the nature reserve, and the sister park. That afternoon we set off to explore the 600 acre reserve in our very own buggy, with special access to exclusive areas when the park is closed to the public!
And after a wonderful day spent seeing elephants, giraffes, rhinos, zebras and many more animals, we popped into the Clubhouse, an exclusive facility for the Treehouse guests, offering drinks and light refreshments overlooking the reserve.
Treehouse guests can also use the facilities of the on-site Mansion hotel with its beautiful formal gardens, ornate terraces and restaurant and bar.
Our 2 night stay seemed like much longer as we packed in so much. Sad when it was time to say goodbye, it really was an unforgettable experience and we’ll always remember where we spent our ‘wood anniversary’, couldn’t quite believe we were in the UK!
