With its striking Cathedral,  and many other historic sites such as the ancient ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey and St Martin’s Church forming Canterbury’s UNESCO World Heritage Site put it into a catagory of its own.  Canterbury is not only steeped in history but has a buzzing cultural side.

St Augustines

Spending time in a holiday cottage in Canterbury allows you to explore English countryside and seaside too!  A short drive from Canterbury you will find coastal towns such as Whitstable where you can enjoy wonderful walks along the beach and a delicious plate of oysters washed down with a glass or two of white wine!  Supposedly we should only eat oysters with an ‘R’ in the month, in fact this was a rule made before refridgeration came into fashion, meaning it was a winter or spring activity – but nowadays we eat oysters all year round.

Oysters in Whitstable, a real winter treat

Oysters in Whitstable, either love them or hate them!
