Packed with fascinating history to explore, Wiltshire developed from a small agricultural county to a bustling trading centre in the Industrial Revolution. Isambard Kingdom Brunel, one of the most famous engineers of the 19th Century stamped his mark here – the incredible Clifton Suspension Bridge as well as the SS Great Britain (formerly the largest ship in the world) can be found in Bristol.
Wiltshire’s ties to the Great Western Railway can also still be seen; visit the STEAM Museum in Swindon, formerly the locomotive factory supplying the trains for the rail!
Rich in heritage with some settlements dating back as far back as the Saxon times – the beautiful city of Salisbury in Wiltshire is home to parts of the original Magna Carta and the tallest Cathedral spire in the UK. And of course, no trip to Wiltshire is complete without a visit to Stonehenge! The ancient relics near Salisbury form part of The UNESCO World Heritage Site and date back over 2,000 years! Built by the Neolithic man with only the most basic of tools, it remains a mystery to this day what the purpose of this fascinating works was. Let your imagination run wild at Stonehenge!
We have some wonderful country cottages in Wiltshire, pretty little villages are in abundance in Wiltshire – Castle Combe near Chippenham is absolutely stunning and has featured on the big screen too! Parts of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter were filmed here, as well as Spielberg’s smash hit War Horse and the adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
