Sarah Wood, the director of Mulberry Cottages has been talking to the press recently about how the Turner Contemporary and the newly opened Jerwood in Hastings are positively effecting holiday bookings!
World class art galleries are having a dramatic effect on bookings for holiday cottages says Sarah Wood of Mulberry Cottages. This trend started last year with the opening in April of the Turner Contemporary Art Gallery In Margate, Kent. Margate and the surrounding areas saw an immediate increase in bookings for houses within 20 minutes of the gallery resulting in bookings rising by 20% year on year.
Sarah is expecting the opening a fortnight ago of the Jerwood Gallery in Sussex to have the same effect on bookings in the immediate area around Hastings. ‘The heart of 1066 country is already very popular with visitors but the Jerwood Gallery adds a very special new tourist draw to the area’ she says, ‘to have two internationally recognised art galleries within an hour of each other is wonderful for the South East and will attract a whole new group of tourists to this area. Within the first 6 weeks of the opening the Turner Contemporary had met two thirds of its annual visitor forecast of 150,000! Lets hope the Jerwood follows in its footsteps.
We have had the exciting opportunity to talk about our findings on Academy FM, the local radio station for the Isle of Thanet (made up of Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate), click here to listen to what we had to say!
