Idyllic break at The Well House, Sussex

One of our guest recently told us about the lovely break they had at The Well House in Sussex, one of our wonderful country holiday cottages:

We really didn’t know what to expect, I mean of course we had seen the photos on the website, but it is not the same as opening the lovely old wooden door to The Well House and stepping inside!  We just stood there taking it all in… amazing, fabulous bits of furniture, a cool white little kitchen, perfectly equipped and a lovely large sofa to flop down into.

We had brought a few provisions, so I nipped to the car and got out the basket of goodies, a bottle of wine and two delicious Pizza Express pizzas, something quick and easy followed by a delicious ripe melon and some raspberries.

Great little kitchen

Had a lovely night’s sleep in the loft bed, managed to climb the ladder and then remembered to clean my teeth, so down and up once more!  It was all part of the fun and woke to the sound of nothing apart from birds singing in the distance.

Beautifully furnished

As we had arrived late the night before, now was the chance to explore our ‘garden’ and the surroundings.  Perched in a beautiful green field overlooking the South Downs, we took our freshly brewed coffee outside and sat on the step, breathing the fresh country air in – such a treat from grey London!

LOVED our time there, went to Lewes, such a charming town with loads of individual boutiques and delicious cafes and restaurants, we didn’t want to leave. We may even see if we can find a Lewes holiday cottage another time.

Walked on the Ashdown Forest, over 4,000 acres of untouched countryside, reminiscent of Scotland!!  Weird and wonderful!

Picked up some delicious cheeses and veg from a local farm shop on our way back to add to our home made supper.

Buxted Farm ShopWe also managed to chance upon a great Pick your Own, where we picked raspberries to go with our blackberries we had foraged in the morning.

From berries to apples and pears, so much to pick!

Really recommend this lovely holiday cottage, we plan to go back in the winter, when the frost is on the ground and we can snuggle up infront of the woodburning stove and roast chestnuts – can’t wait!
