Now Spring has sprung, we are in the holiday mood and where better than to take a lovely break than a country cottage in Essex!  We adore this county, it has so much to offer and is a very well kept secret, so many people have no idea that this magical county which is so close to London, has the most beautiful little villages, gorgeous coastline and great views.

Hop on the train in London and be in the most glorious countryside in less than an hour.  With historic houses such as Audley End House & Gardens in Saffron Walden, Colchester Castle and the RHS Garden at Hyde Hall, Essex has plenty of hidden gems.

To celebrate its 800th anniversary, the Medieval Siege Society will be reconstructing the siege of Hedingham by King John, surrounding the Castle with armed men, archers and siege engines!

Take a boat trip…

If you love wildlife, you can take a boat from Burnham-on-Crouch to Wallasea Island where one of the largest wetland reserves in Europe is in the process of being created. The River Crouch is close enough to the North Sea to be tidal which means there’s a rich diversity of wildlife.

Make a day of it, take the family to see all the wonderful animals, children love it!
