As the months pass by and Olympic fever starts to take its hold, Mulberry Cottages want to get in on the act by introducing you to three of our athletes quietly training for the biggest event of their lives in your local swimming pools, sports centres or running tracks.
Harriet Yea, 22 from Canterbury. Kent. Harriet, who began playing basketball aged 12 and stands at 5” 11′, is hoping that her daily training and love of the sport is enough to carry her through to London 2012. She says her proudest achievement to date is winning the under 18 player of the year in 2007 and although she currently plays in Spain she is hoping that this will push her performance to the next level and catapult her into London 2012;
“It’s a whole different standard (playing in Spain) and makes you really push beyond your potential. Unfortunately playing in England does not allow me to reach that standard. I am putting everything I can possibly put into reaching my goal of playing 2012”
To stay in Canterbury and play on the same Riverside court that Harriet started her career on, or to get to the Olympic park in ease and comfort this summer, why not stay with Mulberry Cottages in Chaucer Apartment, a stunning 5 star holiday cottage sleeping 4 available during the Olympic and Paralympic games from £730 per week.
Nathan Milgate, 24 from Herne Bay, Kent. Nathan, who has Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, has rocketing to the top of his sport of Target Shooting, scoring a perfect 600 in the qualifying rounds for the Paralympic games in the US last October and placing in competitions all over the world. Nathan has already represented team GB in the 2008 Paralympic games in Beijing and is looking forward to competing in London this summer.
“it would be an honour to represent my country on home turf”
To stay near Nathan’s hometown of Herne Bay and directly on the train line to London, why not try Smugglers Cottage in Birchington, a cosy seaside cottage close to transport links to the games. Smugglers Cottage is available for the entirety of the Olympic period priced at £510 per week and sleeps 2 + 2.
Martin Brockman, 23 from Maidstone, Kent. Martin has been training as an athlete since he was 15 and is going from strength to strength, winning bronze in the 2010 Commonwealth games for his event, the Decathlon, in Delhi. Martin has taken the dramatic decision to improve his chances of competing in 2012 in moving down under to continue his training over the winter months in England.
“I don’t have to work while I’m here (in Australia). I train, I eat, I sleep and that’s it…I’m definitely strong enough and fast enough (to qualify to compete in London 2012)”
Stay close to the action in north Kent this summer, near to Martin’s hometown with Mulberry Cottages in Church View Cottage, a quaint country cottage with charm, a short drive from the mainline rail links and with its own beautiful walled garden. Church View Farm sleeps 2 and is £400 per week during the Olympic games.
