We’ve only just heard and we are an office of dog lovers, so we’re spreading the word as you can be fined as much as £500 for not complying so well worth a trip to the vet or a company such as Dogs Trust or the NSPCA.
So what’s so good about being microchipped (if you’re a dog!) we asked Dogs Trust – ‘A microchip is the most effective way of ensuring lost or stolen dogs get reunited with their family. The charity wants to help as many people as possible comply with the new laws by helping to provide the procedure free of charge with the help of vet practices.’
It’s a very quick procedure which is carried out by vets all over the country and you’ll have a certificate showing the dog or cat belongs to you. If your dog runs off for a bit of fun on a dog walk, you search for hours with no luck, (which has happened to me with a naughty lovely little terrier we had), then the chip will make sure you are re united with that little pooch. In my case a very lovely family had found Poppy and taken her to the vets as they didn’t know where else to go – so within 2 or 3 hours I was re united with that little lovable dog.
So don’t forget, by 6th April, dog owners in England, Wales and Scotland must have their pets microchipped and ensure registered address details are kept up to date or risk a fine of up to £500.
