Get ready with your knives for a bit of shucking (the art of removing the scallop from its shell in plain English!).
From Saturday 21st February until 1st March, Rye will be buzzing with scallops. The local restaurants will be showcasing a variety of wonderful scallop dishes and this year there will be scallop events including cookery schools and demonstration, live music, quiz nights and more!
And here at Mulberry we are still trying hard to increase our fitness and generally get healthier. We are so happy to find out that scallops are perfect food to help us along the way. Not only does a serving of five large sea scallops weighing 20 g each have a mere 111 calories, they provide high nutritional value. Plus – wait for it – they are rich in vitamin B12, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc and copper. They are also an excellent source of phosphorus and selenium – wow!
At Webbe’s Scallop School you can enjoy a six course Rye Bay taste menu, sounds delicious! They also offer a demonstration plus a 5 course luncheon. Paul Webbe himself will demonstrate the versatility of this prized mollusc!
We have plenty of lovely places to stay in and around Rye, Windbreak is one of our favourites on the beach at Camber Sands
Why not stay in Anvil Cottage in the heart of Rye,
