Pancake parties….Why Shrove Tuesday is about more than just lemon and sugar…

Pancake Day, Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras. However you wish to refer to the day, it will always bring about that nostalgic smell of lemon, sugar and a hot frying pan. I remember running home from school as a child, bursting through the door and seeing the ingredients on the side, ready for when everyone else was home. It wasn’t just the sweet taste of gooey pancakes combined with the bitter taste of the sharp lemon that I used to look forward to; it was the fact that the whole family would get involved, with everyone taking their turn to flip a pancake.

There is a new craze hitting the traditional Pancake Day celebrations: Pancake Parties!

From pancake races to “bring your own fillings”, you can throw a pancake party to suit all ages and tastes. Traditionally most enjoy lemon and sugar on a pancake but there are many other toppings to try, including: caramelized banana, chocolate sauce and whipped cream or for those looking for something a little naughtier, Cointreau or Grand Marnier
