For many years Tessa and her family had visited Broadstairs every summer and every summer they took a short cut through to the beach and Tessa always admired a pretty flint cottage in the heart of the town.
Then one day there was a For Sale sign next to the cottage and Tess immediately made enquiries – this was the beginning of the love affair with this victorian cottage in Broadstairs.
When Tessa looked round she immediately liked the look of the cottage, the previous owners had similar quirky taste in interiors, the design of Flintback was interesting with a great layout, big kitchen breakfast room and everything was simple and not too precious, making it a perfect self catering holiday cottage.
Tess scoured the local antiques markets and bric a brac shops, she looked round charity shops and found light fittings and a vintage tea set. The oars which hang on the wall in the kitchen were inherited, the rupert bear and ladybird books were found locally too.
Tessa has created a fun interior, the beach hut lamps in the bedroom, the beautiful map (which came from a school geography room) and hangs in the sitting room amongst other items, all come together to create an atmosphere of nostaglia and fun.
If you looking for a childfriendly holiday or a holiday with a group of friends, Broadstairs on the Kent coast is the perfect destination. We love this area with its miles of beautiful beach and wonderful quintessential old-world, seaside charm.
So what else is there to entertain everyone on a break away in Broadstairs? The annual Broadstairs Water Gala is coming up soon – on Wednesday 17th August the town will come alive with events on the beach from toddlers at the Lillyputt Teddy Bears picnic to traditional beach games and competitions , there’s an all day bandstand with the Solid Steel Caribbean band, a dramatic air display, family funfair, and a fantastic firework display to round off the day, Broadstairs Water Gala has something for everyone.
All summer Viking Bay Beach with its classic donkey rides, fish and chips on the pier and even fairground rides in summer is a great place for families to spend the day. You can even rent a beach hut. Don’t forget to visit Morellis ice cream parlour on a hot summer’s day – delicious!
