Renovation Story – Prides Cottage

Kate and her husband moved from London to Child Okeford near Blandford Forum when they found their perfect house.  The only problem being that this perfect house needed seriously updating.

They spent a year renovating the property; rewiring, replumbing, creating a patio at the back of the house and replanting the garden. They loved the local life – there’s a great pub in the village and they soon made friends.

They continued to renovate the cottage and uncovered the huge inglenook fireplace, discovering rotten roof beams and by the time they had completed the work, they knew every single inch of the property.

They were not going to cut corners and decided on a bespoke kitchen company, Trevor Toms and freelancer Horner Roberts who built the kitchen beautifully.

‘From the outside the house doesn’t look that big, but once inside, it’s quite extraordinary how large it feels’ Kate told me.  Originally 2 cottages, it has 2 staircases and lots of original features.  They decided to transform the garage into a garden room.  This has been amazingly successful, with solid oak flooring, a huge wall of windows plus skylights, making it a super light room to relax in.

The garage became a wonderful sun room

They painted the walls and woodwork in Farrow & Ball, used Laura Ashley wallpaper, added dual fuel radiators, made it snug and warm by adding a woodburner in the sitting room.

It was never the owners’ plan to leave Prides Cottage, but when they found another house in the village which needed some care and attention, they decided it was time for a move.
