I really enjoyed listening to art critic Brian Sewell being interviewed on Radio 4 recently, talking about his new book ‘Sleeping with Dogs: A Peripheral Autobiography’ (available to buy now as a perfect gift for your dog-loving friends).
He treats his dogs as member of the family – eating with them and sleeping with them (sometimes up to 4!). He spoke of the intelligence of dogs and the fact that they are aware of what is going on, so sensitive and they really are man’s best friend.
Mr Sewell told the distressing story of the family departure from their home on the outbreak of the 2nd World War. All their belongings were packed in the car and his step father took his beloved dog round to the beach side of their house and shot it. Brian Sewell said that war broke out in the Sewell family for 5 years until the end of the war and the arrival of the next dog.
We love all things pet-friendly. Dogs and other pets are very welcome at Mulberry Cottages.
