You could actually stay in the area that the new comedy drama, Mapp and Lucia which is to be screened on BBC 1 over the New Year, is set.  The new adaptation is by Steve Pemberton who explains how important the location is to the 3 part series which airs on 29th, 30th and 31st December.  It sounds a really fun production set in a small community, wonderful costumes and of course the great back drop of Rye!

There’s nothing quite like waking up near the sea,  to wonderful crisp sunny mornings, perfect if you are looking for peace and quiet after a busy Christmas!  With fabulous beach walks, you can come back to steaming bowls of soup for lunch followed by all that lovely holiday TV, such a treat.

You will love the medieval town of Rye with its cobbled streets and quaint shops and cafes only 3 miles away and has lots of entertainment planned.  There are art galleries, boutiques, restaurants and pubs run by very friendly locals to make your New Year holiday even better.

If you like a bit of fresh air at this time of year, there is an excellent Circular route which begins and ends at Rye Harbour car park, it is 5.7mile and takes 2-3hrs, depending on stops and fitness.  It is classed as ‘Easy’ as on flat paths and a little rough ground, you can even bike it or take a pushchair!

Look out for the RNLI Station at the harbour, there are bird hides along the route for viewing the great bird life, so many at this time of year.  There is always activity with fishing boats coming back from the sea and some interesting buildings along the way, including old railway carriages which have been converted into homes.

There are some fabulous holiday properties in the area, with Camber Sands close by.  The Waves can sleep 6 and with access to the beach and the countryside, it is a wonderful place for walking and general relaxation.  You can even take your dog!
