Summer evening Jazz in Tunbridge Wells by Sophie
Situated in the famous Pantiles area of the spa town of Tunbridge Wells, in the south east, summer Jazz evenings have arrived – every Thursday from 7.30pm through August.
The evenings are funded by the Association of Pantiles Traders and local restaurants and bars, so it’s only £2 requested donation to soak up the spa town atmosphere and enjoy fabulous music. I can feel myself unwinding already.
I love the variety of restaurantes – Mediterranean, Italian, Indian, Mexican and English. Plus cafes and pubs. Tables spill out onto the pavement so it is easy to hear the music from almost anywhere. There’s something for everyone on the Pantiles and the atmosphere is perfect.
And, of course, the music. Great musicians such as Hard Lines, performing their favourite Jazz Funk sounds, The Cuban Violets, with music from Latin America, and The Chillbillies featuring Jazz, Soul and Blues brought the Pantiles to life. Plus Derek Nash and Friends and the Ray Rich Band – kept us tapping our toes and sipping wine all evening.
And because I love this area so much, I can’t resist mentioning …
Only a short drive from Tunbridge Wells lies Birch Pavilion, a stunning house dating back 200 years and situated within one of the oldest deer parks in Kent. With space for up to 15 guests, it is a great self-catering holiday house for family and friends to gather and totally relax.
Just outside of the spa town is The Red House with its own swimming pool and a fab kitchen for cooking up a feast on long, summer evenings.
If it’s too chilly to eat outside, there’s a beautiful oak table that seats 10 in the open plan dining/kitchen area. Oh, did I mention the Aga and the dark granite work-surfaces? The Red House is located in a village on the edge of the Ashdown Forest – 1000s of acres of hills and gorse to explore. I’m thinking picnic and adventure.
There’s also the beautifully decorated holiday cottage, The Drift, in Groombridge, Kent, only 10 minutes from Tunbridge Wells. The countryside views are stunning.
And, again, the newly refurbished kitchen is ideal for creating the perfect evening feast. There is a large range cooker with gas hob and a double oven, large fridge freezer, separate wine fridge (yes!) and a useful combination microwave for entertaining large groups or families.
Happy summer holidays!
