From this exact time of writing there are 8 days, 7 hours, 16 minutes and 11 seconds until Christmas day. I can feel the seconds slipping away as I write this and the panic is slowly building to a crescendo resulting in crying in shopping centres and obsessively eating mince pies. The reason? (whisper it) I haven’t brought any Christmas presents yet.
But what is a busy working girl to do? I cannot think of anything worse than shopping after work and Saturdays and Sundays are reserved for things that I don’t have time to do in the week, namely sitting on the sofa, going out or shopping for myself. I refuse to believe that I am the only person in this position and so have searched high and low for the ways in which we can pull it back, create a Christmas Miracle and ensure that everyone gets at least one thing they want this Christmas….
Firstly, don’t panic. It is too late for lists but you can make a mental note of the shop which has the highest percentage of desirable gifts for family and friends. Throw money at the problem in Department Stores or Shopping Malls with different shops under one roof (as it could not be colder outside), if money is an issue then Markets can do the trick too. Secondly, think of it as a game- a festive edition of supermarket sweep if you will… Give yourself ONE HOUR at your selected venue, forcing yourself to make firm desicions and stay focused on the task in hand.
Secondly, use your time wisely. The lunch hour daily usually set aside for overeating and catching up on the latest gossip can be used to order from a multitude of sites specialising in separating us from our November paychecks in return for presents of varying quality. Again the limited time means that you don’t have a choice about it…
Thirdly, recycle! Al Gore told us to do it and now we can.. most of us have presents given by well meaning aunts that stay in their boxes or bags from one December to the next, do your bit for the enviroment and pass on (letting the cycle continue).
And last but by no means least, if it all becomes just too much- take care of all the family in one fail swoop in booking a stay in one of Mulberry Cottage’s beautiful properties for 2012. One of those genius presents that will make your mum cry but takes considerably less time to do than it appears!
So assemble your gifts, coax the one weirdo in every family who actually ‘enjoys’ wrapping to do their bit and relax! Only 9 more days to go till you can appreciate all those presents that were brought for you with care and watch as your family and friends open the presents that were so ‘thoughtfully’ brought by you…
