Preparations are well under way for the golf courses on our wonderful Kent coast as the Open Championship draws closer and closer – around 9 weeks away to be precise!
Tina Yates our golf representative tells us about how she played yesterday on a tranquil stunning day at Royal Cinque Ports, one of the Qualifying courses.
“Approaching the infamous 16th hole I felt a pang of sorrow for the great loss of Seve, an iconic champion of golf. The 16th is the best hole on the course and Seve’s favourite, a big drive is essential to carry the deep cross bunker and put yourself in position for a long second to a raised green. A four is a real achievement – one that even Seve would relish. Those of us who have loved this game for many years are mourning the loss of a superstar, a swashbuckling matador who had a bit of every Lady Golfers heart. I tipped my cap when I finished the 16th unfortunately with a not so brilliant 5 and thought of Seve the British Open Champion 3 times……!”
