The Olympic Torch relay… comes to KENT!

Even though the Torch Relay feels as if its been going on for years by this point, it is finally winding its way up towards London in the concluding days of its epic cross country race, taking in Lands End to John O’Groats and every town, city and sight in the land!

The first handover to start the 2012 torch's amazing journey!

As you know, each of the thousands of torch bearers chosen to represent our country during the relays are inspirational, either for overcoming personal difficulties, challenging problems into helping others or making a difference in their local communities. So when Carl, a member of our booking team, said he was lucky enough to be friends with one of the lucky few, and was heading down to Dover to watch his friend in action…

This once in a lifetime opportunity was taken with both hands by Graeme

The torch bearer, Graeme Faber, has a story that is perhaps more impressive than most… In between completing countless physical feats to raise money for charity (including cycling through Mongolia, trekking Nepal and perfecting his marathon and triathalon techniques), he also had the strength to overcome the personal crisis Bowel and Kidney cancer in a quiet and dignified way. Not only does Graeme travel the world to raise much needed funds for charities such as Water Aid and Macmillan Cancer Fund, he also takes time to help out in his local community, from acting in the local pantomine and putting up Christmas decorations.

The beautiful Dover coastline was the ideal backdrop for the torch visit to the South East

At the age of 76 and having witnessed the last London Olympics as a boy, Graeme is truly befitting his role as an ambassador for Great Britian; encapsulating a respect for the past, overcoming great adversity and the hope for a bright future.. GO GRAEME!

From Dover, the Torch was carried through the streets, around the picturesque Isle of Thanet and onto Mulberry Cottages HQ in Canterbury. Some of the team went and saw it and spotted the Olympic mascot Wenlock!

As the torch winds its way towards London, make sure you go out and support the runners (each with their own wonderful stories to tell) in this once in a lifetime event… see you there?!
