Have you ever been to a ploughing match? Well last Saturday the team at Mulberry Cottages went to the Weald of Kent ploughing match in the wonderful rolling countryside of the Weald of Kent, near Staplehurst.
Ploughing is the probably one of the most familiar of all of the countryside activities. The object of ploughing is to turn the top surface of the soil and bury surface plant growth and rubbish underneath where it will decompose.
We had a hospitality tent at the ploughing match that attracted lots of visitors who caught the smell of the bacon sandwiches, a popular choice and a great place to shelter from the rain and wind. There were some fabulous displays of tractors and machinery of all shapes and sizes, along with many other events in the main arena.
The show was a great success, a true country event, organised by the local agricultural community, for everyone. If you haven’t visited a Ploughing match yet they are well worth a visit! The next match is at the Laughton & District Agricultural Society at Upper Stoneham Farm, Lewes, East Sussex.
If you haven’t been to one before they are well worth a visit and ideal for all the family with dog shows, horses, lots of farm machinery and much much more for all to enjoy.
