About Calf Pen

Imagine escaping to your own pint-sized country retreat in the heart of the beautiful Hampshire countryside to enjoy a glass of wine al fresco on a sun drenched terrace with a loved one or friend. Calf pen is a beautifully renovated flint and brick barn that retains its original character and charm with many of the luxuries you would expect for a cosy country retreat. These include a stylish bathroom with a huge walk in shower and under floor heating, inviting leather sofas, a large fully equipped kitchen with a dining table, twin beds that can be made into a large comfortable bed and the freedom of open farmland and fields.

If you don't fancy cooking whilst at Calf Pen, the highly regarded Trout Inn is only a short walk away and offers great country pub meals and plenty of traditional ale to wash it all down. This is all situated close to the River Itchen, famous for its trout fishing and also the setting that inspired Charles Kingsley's "The Water Babies". This quaint cottage has many delights to offer and is an ideal haven for complete rest and relaxation.

"I should like to say how very much my friend and I enjoyed our stay at Calf Pen Cottage in August, so much so, that we hope to return next year. It was everything we wanted in a holiday cottage and quite one of the best we have stayed in over many years and in various parts of the country. Attractive, comfortable, well equipped, tasteful and, above all, a charming and helpful hostess. Definitely somewhere to return to, the only trouble being other people will no doubt want to do the same!"

August 2014 - S. Powers

"This is the best self-catering apartment we have stayed in, anywhere - excellent. Recommend it without hesitation or reservation."

August 2014 - E. Harvey

"Yet again the 'Calf Pen' was an ideal base for Grange Park Opera. The glamour of the opera (entrance half a mile down the road!) combined with the calm of the courtyard and the beauty of the surrounding countryside was marvelous! The Calf Pen has high standards of taste and comfort - it all works so well (and this time the weather was good, too!). We will be back!"

Liz and Alan Beattie - June 2014

"Had a great time - your facilities are wonderful and we loved the area, great for dogs - but not the pheasants!"

Rod and Liz Bennett - November 2013

"Short but perfect stay - thank you"
