There are plenty of outdoor pursuits such as golf, horse-riding and clay pigeon shooting locally. There is a private fishing lake opposite, for which day passes can be purchased (anglers must also have a valid rod licence). The Ashdown Forest (home of Winnie the Pooh) is right on your doorstep, with its fabulous heathland views, woodland walks and the quaint villages of Forest Row and Hartfield. Take a stroll into Maresfield village just down the road, and stop in for a drink at the popular country inn 'Chequers' just 500m away. For a more bustling and vibrant day out you can explore the shopping, restaurants and cafe culture of Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells. Also close by are Hever and Chiddingstone Castles, Groombridge Place, Penshurst Place and Chartwell - home of Winston Churchill. For those who love opera, Glyndebourne is a short drive. Crowborough is just 10 minutes away, Tunbridge Wells 20 minutes, and the pretty market town of Lewes is well worth a visit 11 miles south. Brighton is also within an hour's reach.
