Cottages in Hastings
Located on the east coast, Hastings is most famous for its connection with the Norman conquest of England in 1066. It's now home to Europe's largest fleet of beach-launched fishing boats. Famously called the 'Stade' an old Saxon term meaning "landing place", and dates from before the Battle of Hastings in 1066. It has been used for beaching boats for over a thousand years, a use which continues to this day. The old town is thriving with vintage shops, quirky cafes and independant shops with the Jerwood Art Gallery set amongst the fishing boats on the beach. The Jack in the Green Festival held on the first May bank holiday weekend each year is well worth a visit.
