Cottages in Hawkhurst
Hawkhurst is a charming and special village in that it is split into two - one, the older of the two, consists mainly of old cottages and a large green known as the Moor, and the other is Highgate which stands on a crossroads and is where the shops lie. A stay in a holiday cottage in Hawkhurst will allow you to explore the villages interesting history. Which is particularly intriguing as it was the territory of the 18th century Hawkhurst Gang - a notorious criminal organisation involved in smuggling throughout southeast England from 1735 until 1749. It makes a fun and fascinating walk around the village to see what the gang once called their home. Their main base was at the Oak & Ivy Inn on the Sandhurst road.
