About Arcadia

Introduction

"A holiday cottage with a difference Arcadia is a fascinating conversion of a pair of High Victorian Gothic chapels designed by Thomas Talbot Bury a noted pupil of Pugin built around 1870. The two main chapels are linked by a cloistered reception hall where the main entrance and door to the garden are located. The master bedroom built on a mezzanine floor features stained glass windows and a free standing roll top bath.\nThe large open plan sittingdining room is comprised of one of the twin chapels in its entirety and has full length stained glass windows and a high vaulted ceiling as well as the original chapel organ. With a 50 inch flat screen television large leather sofas and a long oak dining table this room lends itself to being an excellent and unusual place to stay.\nOutside the garden features a pond with fountain gravel walkways and lawned area with loungers table and chairs. Arcadia is to be found within Charlton cemetery nestling beneath the impressive Dover Castle."

Very good communication in the time between booking and arrival. Everything was described clearly. Arcadia is a very impressing spot. The two ancient chapels are beautifully restored and the spirit of the complete setting is maintained very well. We liked to stay there for having some coastal walks, visiting the cliffs, being in Canterbury for attending the choral evensong, going to Rye, ... A collection of some information concerning the chapels and the surrounding would be helpful. Finally - one of the best holiday cottages in the UK we ever booked

Mulberry cottages has great gones and service is very smoothly We loved the house which is quite big and lovely decorated. The pond with the fish was a nice extra along with the garden. We loved to have breakfast in the garden and the boys could play ball games in the surrounded garden. The house is located at walking distance from a supermarket and very close to Dover castle and city centre. Our kids thought it was quite strange staying on a graveyard at first but likedthe place as well. We do recommend this house.

I booked a fortnight and a day before I was due to leave I was told there was another booking and had to leave in one hour. I also let workmen visit during my stay. Then had no hot water for three days. But I didn’t complain until being kicked out. I’m a travel blogger so I will change my glowing review to a negative one now. Shocking No welcome manual to help understand how things like water and heating work

Excellent communication. Everything was as described. Extremely comfortable, beautifully furnished and very warm despite the high ceilings and large spaces.

Received very good instruction to get to the place. Might want to add some for the alarm, though - it came as a bit of surprise and caused a bit of a panic at first. We may have caused the alarm to go off for a while... Sorry. What a lovely place to stay! Was a bit worried about the heating, the weather having been somewhat cold and damp, but there was no need - the whole place was so warm, nice and cosy! Beautiful!

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary. The place was nicely decorated for Christmas. We had a great time. It’s very quiet and we slept well and it’s very close to Dover Castle which is a fantastic place. The cottage itself is beautiful, we played board games and had an early Christmas, with presents under the large Christmas Tree in the main living room. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. We were very happy with our stay and would book it again. We stayed here for our wedding anniversary. The place was nicely decorated for Christmas. We had a great time. Mulberry Cottages doesn’t provide a service really? They just defer you to talk to the owners. They just handle the payment. We contacted them a few times for some things and they instructed us to call the owners. I just kept contacting them because it seems generally confusing to have multiple different people to contact for one rental. They did relay messages to the owners. The owners were great and very helpful- they brought us a vacuum cleaner when we requested it. The house was lovely otherwise. Beautiful and spacious. A little difficult to find- but once you do it’s like your own little secret garden in the middle of Dover. The heat was a little tricky to figure out at first because we’re not accustomed to radiators- but we figured it out no problem. The owners are very responsive and helpful. The grounds the house are on have lots of foxes- which we enjoyed seeing every night.

Everything was fine until we arrived at the cottage and there was a couple of issues that needed to be sorted. I spoke to someone who said they would ring me back but failed to do so. The venue was beautiful, well kept and well equipped
