What makes this area so special
Close to Blackbird Cottage you will find the Wykeham Arms pub famed for its food and hospitality. Walk a little further through the heart of the Mediaeval City to the world famous Winchester Cathedral, final resting place for novelist Jane Austen. It is a wonderful place to visit any time of year, but especially in the Winter months when the grounds are transformed into a Winter Wonderland, with traditional Christmas markets. It is equally beautiful to visit during the Spring and Summer when the grounds burst into bloom, making them a joy to wander around and explore. Winchester is at one end of the famous South Downs Trail, a 100 mile walking or cycling route for the more adventurous visitor. The largest forest in England, the New Forest, is a short drive away, full of pubs, walks and wildlife. Winchester is a foodie haven, with Michelin star restaurant The Black Rat, a Rick Stein seafood restaurant and The Ivy all short walks away.
