What makes this area so special

Tunbridge Wells rose to fame as a spa town after the discovery of a health benefiting spring, named Chalybeate Spring located where The Pantiles now stand. Since 1606, the town was the ’must see’ destination of a wide range of visitors, including royalty, who all flocked to drink the iron rich spring water. As the popularity continued, shops, lodgings and eateries began to be constructed which now form the straight colonnades of The Pantiles.
