I’ve given Haford station top scores for everything because l found it absolutely magical. It was clean, comfortable, well equipped and very cosy. The integrated railway carriage is amazing, and the vintage touches enhance the 1940’s vibe. As a huge fan of Dungeness l found Haford station to be in perfect harmony with its surroundings and I’m already planning my next visit. If l win the lottery I’ll put in an offer to the owners. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!

i have rented out caravans for 40 years and have 3 rewards for the quality of them, All my bookings are revisits and i am booked up 2 years in advance I come to kent ones a year to see family i never expected to have to pick up dogs mess every day ,And when it was windy you might as well be sitting out side i like the way it is but there is a lot that can be don to make it better like the windows need looking at the twin room would benefit twine beds as there is not much room on the top bunk and the seating is very uncomfortable. It would benefit from a wood burning stove like others there it will save on the electricity in the winter.

We had a lovely break; however, the weather conspired against us, due to this we spent more time ‘in’ than we had envisioned. This drew our attention to the little ‘niggles’ such as an incredibly uncomfortable sofa, dining chairs that were also very uncomfortable to sit in for any length of time and a draft through the lounge window which blinds could not abate! Overall it’s a lovely property, a bit more thought for comfort would have made a lot of difference to our stay, we left early as we could not relax which is a shame.

We had a great stay at Hafod Station. The cottage is very well equipped. There was some milk and cakes at arrival, that is very nice after a long drive. Very nice kitchen and bathroom. We loved the whole environment. The cottage is a "work in progress" and things are being continually improved. We would like to come back in a few years and see what has changed and so on.

Second time I have stayed here and still absolutely love its quirkiness. It is however a work in progress. The new sofa bed was so hard - not what's needed when you have had a long day & just want to chill out in front of the tele. I am aware that the owner recognises this and is having a new base made. It was great just to be able to walk out on to the estate and wander.

We had the most amazing time at Hafod Station. On arrival it was so beautiful, all looked freshly painted and as we walked through the door to the ticket office my children were so excited. The lighting and carriage is just astounding. My son and daughter just loved it all. running all over just screaming with joy. It is a breathtaking place and has so much eye for detail. The children played all over the garden area and met a lot of locals and exploring all the features in the surroundings. My daughter was especially intrigued by the anchor. As a family short break this was fabulous. We explored the area in the day and chilled out comfortably in the lounge in the evening. The kitchen and dining table were absolutely fantastic, we felt like we were in a fine dining restaurant. We took a few bits with us and when we arrived to an amazing plate of cakes that was a lovely touch. We especially loved unpacking our clothes into the fabulous station trunks, my daughter and son did all of their clothes and ours. Was lovely to see a book to leave a memoir in, the pen and desk were just beautifully in keeping with the rest of the carriage. We all spent time at the desk. The bed was so great, it was risen up and we laid at night and watched the boats, making use of the binoculars provided. We actually expected the bed to be higher, but it was spectacular even so. The property was clean and fully equipped with everything we needed. The lights and flooring are something you can only experience with your own eyes, took our breath away. We decided on our departure that we all felt like we had been transported back in time. The 1853 date on the carriage was amazing to see. Such attention to detail everywhere in this property. It was like staying in a museum, everywhere we looked there was something to represent Dungeness and Hafod itself. We wished we had booked for a lot longer and we will definitely be booking again ASAP. The owners should be proud of this beautifully restored train carriage. It was a honour to stay there, and we will be back soon. Thanks for a great holiday and the memories we made will stay forever.

We don’t normally leave negative reviews but we wished someone had been upfront about Hafod before we booked so we could have made a more informed choice. We were disappointed by many aspects of Hafod, having stayed in various Dungeness properties 10 or so times over the years. The top positive for Hafod was its location within Dungeness, followed by the quirky and unique aspects of its interior. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with equipment and we had everything we needed there. The TV was also more than adequate with a good range of channels (via a fire stick). But then it goes downhill sadly from there. The neighbours had a very old and very lovely dog who roamed around freely, but it meant that the exterior of Hafod was littered with dog poo. We lost count of how much stepping-in/clearing up we did- it became almost funny. Almost. Whilst this isn’t something Hafod’s owners have direct control over, it needs addressing. No one wants to step outside their accommodation each day to be greeted with that! There was nowhere to sit indoors in any comfort to chill. The sofa bed was solid and unforgiving as a sofa. There was thick black mould on many of the window frames/handles. The interior step up to the carriage was broken. There was a broken pane in at least one window. These small issues gave the place a really tired feel. There was nowhere adequate to unpack our cases so we didn’t! The hanging rack in the second bedroom kept collapsing. The desk/dresser in the main bedroom was unusable because every drawer was thick with black mould again. It gave the room a really musty smell as well. My husband has bad asthma and this was an issue all week- except for nights we remained largely outside the property (thankfully the weather was good). Outside was really depressing, especially out the back. The furniture was largely broken and the table was so bowed as to be unusable. We did not go outback at all for this reason after day one. There is a fine line between a quirky vintage theme and furnishings (which we very much like) and things that really should just be dumped because they don’t work or are broken/tatty. The ‘smokers room’ in the building outback was disgusting- thick with ash and grime. It should be shut off/locked if it’s not for guests’ use, or made fit for purpose if it is for use. The main bedroom had some practical issues too- the bed is way too high/precarious if you are in any way infirm. The window in the bedroom is very large and at the same height as the mattress, with the bed right up against the window, so we dared not sleep with the window open for fear of rolling over and literally falling out! This meant it was absurdly hot and airless in the room and there were no fans present to cool off. I think really we have only given Hafod a 6 because of the beauty of Dungeness itself. The owners need to have a really good look at the accommodation and get these things sorted. We only get one holiday a year, and this accommodation was at considerable cost in the peak summer season, and it was deeply disappointing.

Accommodation was larger than expected and very well thought out. Outside was very scruffy but inside was pleasantly large and very well stocked. Cakes were a nice surprise. Being retired I would have liked a bit more comfort like a reclining chair in the lounge There were 4 adults , the double bed was far too high for me, and the steps up to the top bunk were very uncomfortable for my husband's feet. However, for a weekend, it was fine. Outside furniture could do with an update. However we all enjoyed the uniqueness of the accommodation.

The cottage was perfectly clean and very well equipped with good quality items. The outside , even being in its setting, requires some maintenance, comfort and maybe a dog friendly fenced off area to sit with our dog, some outdoor seating cushions would have been pleasant and perhaps closing off the outdoor shed for safety and appearance. Having said that, the indoor of the cottage was lovely, full of charm and character. An additional comfy seat would have been good as the cottage sleeps 4 and the sofa seated 2. Love Dungeness and enjoyed the area and eating places very much.

Hafod Station is an experience that is unlikely to be easily repeated. I won’t say unique, as many cottages on Dungeness are built around old railway carriages, but the care and sensitivity of the renovation, the detail of the concept and the manner that this have been achieved are exceptional. Dungeness is a special place, isolated and strange, the edge of England. It is well worth a few days of anybody’s time to fully experience its charm Would we go back? Absolutely, in a shot!
