About Masketts Barn

Introduction

"Step into this characterful oak-beamed barn tucked away in a beautifully tranquil corner of the Sussex landscape. Set in idyllic rolling countryside with beautiful views to the South Downs and sunsets to die for this converted eighteenth-century grain-barn has roaring fires to sit by in the evening and a selection of outdoor activities to enjoy in the sunshine. Located in a secluded country estate of more than 500 acres the house is an ideal base to explore some of England’s most ancient unspoilt woodland there are deer on the doorstep and just a few minutes walk will take you to glades of oak and beech carpeted with a spectacular show of bluebells in April and May where the only sound is birdsong. The house has two cosy reception rooms a television with all the Sky main channels including Sport while for those who prefer to tinkle away or join in a sing-song there is also an upright piano. The kitchen provides a bright open space perfect for family meals or celebrations and leads on to a pretty conservatory where the breathtaking country views can even be enjoyed in the rain. The house has its own walled garden perfect for secluded sunbathing or relaxing at cocktail hour. There is a championship-standard tennis court recently resurfaced in the garden of the neighbouring Manor which is also available for use by guests. There are excellent local pubs and a number of stunning National Trust properties – including Sheffield Park Standen and Wakehurst Place - just a short drive away. For children and anyone interested in the age of steam the Bluebell Railway is ten minutes from the house by car. So too is Ashdown Forest the home of Winnie-the-Pooh. Further afield Bexhill-on-Sea with its miles of beach is just three-quarters of an hour away as are Brighton and Eastbourne.\nIn addition the owners of the property have an association with a leading teacher of bushcraft orientation and woodland survival skills who runs regular courses in a corner of the estate woodland during the summer months. Some guests time their visits so that they or their children can attend his courses. Please contact Wild Wood Bushcraft if interested."

Great website, clear expectation of payment, clear details of property. We love Masketts, a bit rough around the edges in places (having to bring our own microwave each year has become a running jke in the family) but it’s a wonderful getaway. We’ve been there 3 times, and will return.

Very professional...would use again. Great holiday home for 9 adults & 3 dogs. Excellent dog walks from back door. Cottage was warm, well located & had all you could need. We would like to return.

Efficient booking process and my queries dealt with well A lovely place in beautiful location. However, it was let down by some minor defects. On arrival, we found that the floors had not been cleaned (I had to vacuum most of the downstairs), dirty crockery in the dish washer, dead insects, and loads of cobwebs. It is a lovely building but needs some TLC - nothing serious but things like light fittings that do not work, loo seats loose, etc. I did talk to the owner who responded immediately, but first impressions are important. Although well-equipped generally, it lacks a microwave which would be useful. The welcome pack was a nice touch.

Did what was expected in efficient manner. Lovely tranquil location away from any roads. Roomy, comfortable house with use of tennis court. Good walks in wooded areas all around.

Service very good, easy communication on phone and email, straightforward payment processes Superb accommodation, loads of space, stylish, comfortable, well equipped, unique and distinctive. We loved it. A bit more information about the house - particularly instructions on cooker, would be helpful.

Booking was very straight forward. The property was very good and in an excellent location. Mulberry contacted the owner when we asked for a few things to be clarified and got back to us with answers as soon as they heard from the owner. I wouldn’t knock a star of for this but the only thing I would say is that the itinerary we received didn’t include everything that was actually in the property so thinking that items weren’t included, that were, we took a few things with us that weren’t necessary. I assume Mulberry Cottages are reliant on the information provided by the owner.

The people at Mulberry Cottages are very helpful. We would have liked to leave a positive review as soon as we returned from our property and had to wait two weeks which seems too long. Our stay at Masketts Barn over the Easter weekend was fantastic, made even nicer by the generosity and helpfulness of the owner, who even came round with Easter eggs for the children. He was so kind. The property is fantastic for a large family gathering, it was my wife’s 70th birthday celebration and we all enjoyed the stay very much. The house itself is spacious, warm, comfortable, the beds are lovely and comfortable and there was plenty of room for us all. The kitchen is especially spacious and very well equipped. The house is surrounded by beautiful countryside and the grounds to the estate are fantastic for walking and for children to play in. We enjoyed the table tennis but didn’t use the tennis courts as the weather wasn’t really good enough. We can’t recommend it enough and hope we will be able to return for another break some time.

Very efficient. Friendly staff. Helpful. A beautiful barn, very spacious with lovely grounds. The owner was very helpful when we had some questions. There were plenty of logs for the fire and even Wellington boots to borrow for a walk. Would love to visit again.

Communication with this company very good. Very helpful & warm staff. Would use again. Only mystery we had was that the Barn had a lovely DVD library but no Dvd player? Owners never got back to us.
